My iphone 5s will not let me use touch id for iTunes & App Store purchases. That option is greyed out. Any ideas?

Edit: Sorry I'm dumb. You have to sign into the app store first and then the option becomes available.

Mine does not seem to be sensing the edge of my thumb very well. I have to put the middle of my thumb on the button every time. Anyone else seeing this problem? I even registered the same finger multiple times trying to increase success rate.

If you mean iTunes & App store then you can use Touch ID with them but I just checked and you have to have a pass code set to even access Touch ID settings so if you want to use it for the stores you have to have a pass code or Touch ID to unlock the phone
Yea I meant iTunes and App Store.
Maybe Apple will allow this at some point.

You need to first wake the phone. It's simple, press home button, leave your thumb there for a split second and you're in.

When the iphone was announced I saw a few first hands on video , I remember seeing somebody unlock the phone with the screen off using the fingerprint

Try putting your finger on the home button without pushing down & the screen off

What you didn't see was that they pressed the home button down - they did it you just couldn't tell from the video. The whole process takes such a short amount of time, it's nearly instantaneous.

It doesn't work, you have to press the button to wake the phone first but it can be quick enough that you don't even see the lock screen

Ya, its REALLY fast. I thought there would be a lag and it would be annoying but its seriously freaking fast.

Yea, it will actually scan your finger while the screen is off but won't unlock until you hit the button actually.

But you can't press & hold the home button once all in one cause Siri will come on
You have to press it once or the sleep button , then touch the sensor with your finger

Is anyone having issues with using Touch ID for store purchases? I've got the option turned on to allow fingerprint authentication for store purchases, but all I ever see is the standard prompt that requires the Apple ID password. I've authenticated downloads in the store a bunch of times, but it's never changed to allow fingerprints.

Passcode unlock works great.

In the small line in my small town (about 30 people lined up) I was one of the first 4, and everyone there seemed to only care about the Touch ID and didn't know how powerful the phone was or anything else. That and they all wanted it gold, full well knowing that all they had was space gray.

Put your finger on the button, push down, stop pushing down but keep your finger on the button, phone unlocks. It's pretty simple.

No, but you'll only need to enter the passcode if you reboot or can't scan your finger. There has to be a backup method - what you if cut your finger or are wearing gloves?

Or much more likely, the home button sensor fails. The home button seems to be a weak link in iphone reliability in past models.

So is it JUST iTunes and App Store, or does Touch ID work for "Find my iPhone" and Apple Store app as well? I'm tired of needing to type my password on those (mostly the Apple Store just for checking order status on my 5s though. ;) )

its lightning fast. however I thought you could just put your finger on it with the screen off and the ring senses it? apparently you do have to push the button first. no big deal still super fast.

This is what I thought as well, until I went back and watch the touch id promo video, the phone is on as they unlock it. Not complaining though was up at 4 am in line to grab one, loving it:D

This. Same. I thought you could just place your thumb/finger while it's locked but you can't, no big deal at all. It's brilliant. Fast too as you mentioned.

LOL, I thought the same thing and called Apple support thinking there was something wrong with my phone. I couldn't find anywhere were it said you had to press the button first if the lock screen wasn't showing.

I'm seeing the opposite: it's really slow! It takes a full second or two for any of my prints (two thumbs and index fingers). I let a coworker put in his finger and he unlocks it INSTANTLY though. Frustrating. Maybe my fingers are uber complex?.. :(
