It would actually be useful to simply lift a finger and unlock the device.omg, so funny!![]()
I see a Samsung phone in your future. All new iPhones will remove the home button including the far fetched rumors for the SE2.. iPhone 8 & 8+ will be the last iPhones with touchidI guess some of us just prefer Touch ID. I’ve had my X since November and still prefer Touch ID. Honestly when the galaxy s10 comes out if it has the finderprint sensor under the display I will probably switch to it. Unless apple does it on their next model.
Did we really need to dig up a thread from close to a year ago when all of this has been debated already multiple times over in many more recent threads since then?So many luddites here.
Welcome to the 21st century.
Welcome to change.
Face ID is a simple idea to remove the home button and maximise screen realestate.
Why go back?
Yeah I’ll probably get one. That’s all I use to use. I had s series 1-8 and note 3-5, an iPhone 7 now an iPhone X.I see a Samsung phone in your future. All new iPhones will remove the home button including the far fetched rumors for the SE2.. iPhone 8 & 8+ will be the last iPhones with touchid
By the way, that’s not a bad thing... Samsung phones are equal to anything Apple has hardware wise. Software is where people usually have strong differences in opinion..Yeah I’ll probably get one. That’s all I use to use. I had s series 1-8 and note 3-5, an iPhone 7 now an iPhone X.

Many, many reasons why not to put one on the back. Primarily no one wants it...
It's difficult to use when on the back, physically you have to reach around and locate the button, and it interferes with things such as just having it lying in a desk. There's also the issue of cases requiring huge cutouts in order for the fingerprint scanner to work. Putting them on the back is not progressing a design, it's hap-hazzardly solving a problem that exists when physical buttons are removed from the front of a phone.
FaceID was shown to be less cumbersome and faster than TouchID, so not sure where you're coming from really.
I won’t be upgrading until Apple adds a home button under the display. If Samsung can do it, so can they.
Technically Craig Federighi stated they already experimented with touch ID under the display and that was Plan ‘B’, as Face ID with plan ‘A’. So in a sense of where Apple was experimenting with touch ID under the display, they clearly are not going to choose that route moving forward with Face ID. So even if Samsung can successfully implement a touch ID sensor under the display, Apple is choosing not to pursue that specific route.

I agree I had a Pixel and thought the scanner was betterthere is no reason why they couldn't have put it on the back. There is a big, useless Apple logo already on the back.... why not integrate the scanner into the apple?
If you haven't tried it don't speculate because it actually is easier to use than on the front and I have several friends and coworkers who agreeMany, many reasons why not to put one on the back. Primarily no one wants it...
That isn't true it's easier depending on how you hold your phone normallyIt's difficult to use when on the back, physically you have to reach around and locate the button
I agree it isI've used, the scanner on the back was more convenient than the one on the front.
Which Sony phone was thatThe best was Sony's implementation of the scanner in the power button on the side, IMO.
