I don't want iPadOS to be better. I want to take an iPad Pro, plug it into an external display (or two) and have a full MacOS environment. When I'm done, I disconnect, throw my iPad in a bag, and go. Whether MacOS is available without being "docked" is a question, but I want an ultra portable that can become a true workhorse.Stop asking for MacOS, as it will never work as intended. Start asking for iPadOS to be better.
Who do you think controls macOS?Apple apparently is not going to advertise the new MacBook Pro/Ultra as a touch-first device like the iPad – it will be "touch-friendly, not touch-first
As i mentioned in a previous post, MacOS will NEVER work on an iPad.
1. iPad's use NAND Flash storage. users would never be able to format a drive as they would on MacOS
2. Due to the fact that iPad used 16GB of RAM with no active cooling, users would see severe red memory pressure, lag and slow-down. Even with a vapor chamber, the 5.1mm thickness would not help.
The list is endless

Not sure how my comment of "It will add weight and complexity to a given product. (Hopefully offset by tandem OLED)" foresees adding "2 pounds of weight".The touchscreen does not add extra weight, Apple has requested that Samsung, the supplier of the OLEDs, use on cell Touch panels. That means that the touch layer is implemented directly onto the Display instead of being a separate layer.
Also, the next generation MacBook Pro is rumored to get a redesign that makes it thinner and lighter, and OLED can be thinner and lighter.
I swear, what is happening in this thread? Touchscreen is adding thousands and thousands of dollars to the cost, adding 2 pounds of weight, A big, massive technological hurdle Apple has to get past…
You guys realize there have been like sub $500 Windows computers with multi-touch displays? Or you know, the iPad?.
I think it's probably something they should have as an option. But not as a norm. However, Apple's past track record has often seen norming when it comes to UI design. Bigger phones (which I like but leave a big gap for smaller devices); a very narrow range of acceptable pixel density for displays; and limitations on customization in the OS UI all stand out as examples.I think it's safe to say that the demographic who wants a touchscreen Mac simply isn't on MacRumors.

their point wasn't that you won't be able to use a mouse/trackpad instead of touch. their point was that it will suck if there's no option to buy a MacBook Pro without a touchscreen at a lower price, because otherwise this would be forcing everyone to pay for the touchscreen they don't want to use. I have no idea if that's the case, but it would be a way for them to increase prices, by just making all MacBook Pros more expensive with a touchscreen and other upgrades, so I can see them doing it.its a touch friendly option...not an mandatory option...what are you talking about?
i 100% confirm this macbook still have mouse and trackpad support
Like touchbar...this is true...Gurman said is true, its true.

Fair point. Worth considering depending on specs when it's released. In that case, it absolutely should not be a pass for you, given that the touchscreen is very likely to come accompanied with the oleophobic coating from the iPhone and iPad. If you don’t touch the screen, it should still make smudges less noticeable or easier to clean.
I for one have asked for it. I want a real laptop with touch, not a pseudo-laptop like an Ipad.Absolutely insanely undesirable feature that literally nobody asked for
The touch layer will be embedded directly into the display and glass, no extra weight at all.Not sure how my comment of "It will add weight and complexity to a given product. (Hopefully offset by tandem OLED)" foresees adding "2 pounds of weight".
In weight terms, does the OLED fully offset the heavier glass and hinge needed for the touchscreen? Just curious. No exaggeration. Just curious.
Right, and the original iPhone was the Motorola ROKR V2.This is the touchbar v2. It'll disappear a couple of years later.
Touchscreens on laptops are mostly useless because the posture is just terrible compared to tablets or phones.
I came here to say this. I laughed at 100% confirmed, no, it's a highly likely rumor based on strong evidence.Nothing is "100% confirmed" until Apple announces it.
Steve's dead, with a 100% chance of remaining dead into this evening. If we look at the map, we can see that he will continue to be dead into next week, followed by an extended period of being dead well into the rest of summer and fall. Long range forecast models show that he will remain dead.
It’s bad enough that the keyboard can leave permanent imprints on a MacBook screen from finger oils and the lack of space between the keyboard and display. Now imagine doubling the cleaning problem by adding fingerprints directly on the screen. Even though I meticulously wipe down my keyboard before closing the laptop and putting it in my backpack, I still have marks on the screen that I cannot remove because of extended contact with the keyboard. Heat from laptop probably bakes the marks into the screen.
