I think I paid a little more than that for my Camry when I bought it new in 2009
I paid less than a $1000 more for my 2017 Camry new lol

I rather use the cord because it will charge the phone and no loss in audioCarPlay is nice, but without wireless, to me it’s useless. I would rather go aftermarket since they now offer wireless CarPlay.

First world problems

A $19,500 Corolla. Welcome to the future. I guess relative to most new cars (I think ASP of USA new car sales in 2018 was like $37,000), the Corolla is still a bargain but 20K for a Corolla seems like a practical joke.

BMW's cars (the only ones who seem to offer this wild Wireless Carplay option) do have USB ports.I don't know why anyone would rely 100% on wireless CarPlay. Eats up your battery reeaaalll fast. I would trust my old Lightning USB cable over wireless Carplay and charging. You're in a walking car, the slightest bump can mess up with wireless charging. Two hours drive and I'd end up with 5% battery because of interrupted wireless charging.
If I can go wired, I would. Just like my house are connected with 10Gbps LAN throughout every room.
Grab the spec sheet and base MSRP for the 2009 Corolla.
Now adjust for 10 years of inflation and for the extra features you get on the 2019 model.
All of a sudden, the $19,500 is a screaming bargain. For a car that could easily last 200k with regular maintenance.
I didn't mean to incite the Toyota fanboys. Sheesh. $19,500 is not a bargain for an econobox cars but relative to the car industry, it is. That's my point. "20K for a corolla?!?" was my reaction then I priced out a few base compact vehicles and they're all 20K now so I'm wrong simply because I don't follow the car industry.
I'm sorry for offending the Toyota fanboys. that wasn't my intention.
I don't believe a Corolla or a Kia Soul or a Honda Fit or any other compact econobox vehicles should cost 20 grand but they do so oh well. As for Toyota's stellar reputation, I have a 2015 Ford Escape with 260K miles and the original motor. All cars now last a long time relative to 20 years ago. That's not exclusive to Toyota anymore. How they couldn't get more than 29MPG out of a 1.8 Liter underpowered motor is the real crime here. My Golf Sporwagen gets 38 w/ a 1.8T that puts out 170 horsepower and my 2.5L Escape gets 28 and likely weighs 500 pounds more than the Corolla.
It looks like Toyota probably built a great car that will last a long time but overall, cars are still too expensive. We can go back and forth and cherry pick at stats but I'm not going to argue with "infinite timescale" people who say 20 grand is cheap because it can go for 200K miles. That is not exclusive to Toyota anymore.

I love the fact that my CarPlay stereo is wired. I get to use CarPlay and my phone charges. Win win!
if you want to go aftermarket, my recommendation is to avoid Toyota. their headunits are too tightly integrated to the dash and cars electronics they're not easily replaced.. but this has been a trend for most manu's so i dunno what else is an option.CarPlay is nice, but without wireless, to me it’s useless. the pricing of these new cars is insanity. I bought a 2012 SE 4cyl fully loaded, with financing for approximately 22k USD. brand new in 2012.I think I paid a little more than that for my Camry when I bought it new in 2009
Will this work in my 1997 Corolla?
HubrisWhen I bought my last car it was an absolute must that it supported CarPlay. Can't believe it took Toyota this long.
Hubris
Back when Carplay was launched Toyota publicly stated they will NOT adopt it because they believe that they can do better.
*queue the voice of Ron Howard*
They could not
I just got CarPlay in a new car (Jeep Grand Cherokee). It is truly excellent. An unsung part of the Apple ecosystem
That said, I wish I had wireless CarPlay. I consistently forget to plug my iPhone in before driving off. I now see how a wireless version would be the way to go
