Who in their right mind buys a Toyota? Might as well put wheels on a refrigerator and drive it instead. Toyota makes appliances, not driver's cars.
And what about CarPlay for owners of previous model years? Toyota says screw you!
Mazda, which makes driver's cars (cars that are fun to drive), released CarPlay last year and it's compatible with all of their models back to about 2014 or so. I installed Mazda's CarPlay (it also has Android Auto) in my 2016 Mazda Miata and my 2017 Mazda CX-5 and it works beautifully. Did the install myself for $165 each car.
Come to your senses, America, buy a Mazda instead of a Toyota. You'll be glad you did!

""I've never actually seen, or found, the value in it [CarPlay]. That's not to say we don't want it, but for us it has not been a priority in all of our product negotiations with Japan.
"I would debate whether any customers are making their car-buying decisions based purely on whether or not the car has Apple CarPlay.""

You can choose a small one because of:Who in their right mind buys a Toyota?
They should offer wireless charging and Carplay on the higher trims. I personally hate having to plug in a usb cable in a car. When in a rush, it takes time and sometimes you forget or misplace the cable.
Here's one thing I don't like about Carplay. I have navigation in my Ford Edge, and when Carplay is on, the navigation doesn't work. I don't want to use cell data for Maps. The only time I leave it on is if I'm expecting a call, or text.
https://www.carscoops.com/2019/02/kias-new-ev-concept-mocks-display-overload-trend-21-screens/I see Toyota's implementation of a infotainment system is a butt feckin ugly as Mazda. Hurrr, lets velcro a screen to the top of the dash. Yes, I know it's not velcro'd on, but it still looks really cheap and ugly.
I don't think it has a disc player.I'm saddened by the fact that the 2020 corolla has more features than my 2015 Lexus NX.
I understand where you are coming from, but I can live without CarPlay and a Car if need be, but I'm just saying its not worth upgrading for me unless its wireless.First world problems
Useless? Does you gig not have a charging cable? Or do you prefer wireless charging and refuse to have an extra cord cluttering up your space?

Why is it useless without wireless? Sure it’s less convenient and would be much improved but what makes it useless?
I don't know why anyone would rely 100% on wireless CarPlay. Eats up your battery reeaaalll fast. I would trust my old Lightning USB cable over wireless Carplay and charging. You're in a walking car, the slightest bump can mess up with wireless charging. Two hours drive and I'd end up with 5% battery because of interrupted wireless charging.
If I can go wired, I would. Just like my house are connected with 10Gbps LAN throughout every room.
