Who in their right mind buys a Toyota? Might as well put wheels on a refrigerator and drive it instead. Toyota makes appliances, not driver's cars.

And what about CarPlay for owners of previous model years? Toyota says screw you!

Mazda, which makes driver's cars (cars that are fun to drive), released CarPlay last year and it's compatible with all of their models back to about 2014 or so. I installed Mazda's CarPlay (it also has Android Auto) in my 2016 Mazda Miata and my 2017 Mazda CX-5 and it works beautifully. Did the install myself for $165 each car.

Come to your senses, America, buy a Mazda instead of a Toyota. You'll be glad you did!

this post is just sad..

"A drivesr car"... then refers to mazdas.. another basically appliance car.

want to talk "Drivers cars" and be taken seriously, maybe actually talk about cars that are regularly applauded for their above average driving experiences.

Neither Toyota, Honda, Mazda's mainstream cars are "drivers cars". they are all appliances and thats exactly what they are meant for.

safe. Reliable. Daily drivers that get you from Point A to Point B with no hassle. little extranious costs.

that's just the way some of us like it. in thoery my Camry will last till 2040... most of those "drivers cars" that feature real performance and power, handling etc, aren't going to do that

Meanwhile, in New Zealand

""I've never actually seen, or found, the value in it [CarPlay]. That's not to say we don't want it, but for us it has not been a priority in all of our product negotiations with Japan.

"I would debate whether any customers are making their car-buying decisions based purely on whether or not the car has Apple CarPlay.""

Toyota NZ's product and new vehicle sales general manager, Neeraj Lala.

It was painful reading that.

Here's one thing I don't like about Carplay. I have navigation in my Ford Edge, and when Carplay is on, the navigation doesn't work. I don't want to use cell data for Maps. The only time I leave it on is if I'm expecting a call, or text.

They should offer wireless charging and Carplay on the higher trims. I personally hate having to plug in a usb cable in a car. When in a rush, it takes time and sometimes you forget or misplace the cable.

Do they not include it standard? It seems that the Qi charging mat is standard in their lineup... I know it's in the hatchback version of the Corolla.

And as far as the cable... just leave one in the car...

You could download offline versions the area with Google Maps. I was shocked to discover when you do this navigation will work when you're in airplane mode with wifi turned on.

It makes no sense not to install rear speakers on a car with DVD and digital TV.

Not talking about Corolla.

I see Toyota's implementation of a infotainment system is a butt feckin ugly as Mazda. Hurrr, lets velcro a screen to the top of the dash. Yes, I know it's not velcro'd on, but it still looks really cheap and ugly.

Too late. I already got my 2018 Elantra which it has CarPlay and more features than the Corolla.

I'm saddened by the fact that the 2020 corolla has more features than my 2015 Lexus NX.

First world problems
I understand where you are coming from, but I can live without CarPlay and a Car if need be, but I'm just saying its not worth upgrading for me unless its wireless.

Useless? Does you gig not have a charging cable? Or do you prefer wireless charging and refuse to have an extra cord cluttering up your space?
[doublepost=1551208030][/doublepost]

I prefer no charging. I'll use a cable if I want to charge. I prefer to keep my phone in pocket and not even worry about it.

Why is it useless without wireless? Sure it’s less convenient and would be much improved but what makes it useless?

I'm just not willing to upgrade my current headunit because I already have similar features. When wireless carplay is cheaper I will upgrade.

I don't know why anyone would rely 100% on wireless CarPlay. Eats up your battery reeaaalll fast. I would trust my old Lightning USB cable over wireless Carplay and charging. You're in a walking car, the slightest bump can mess up with wireless charging. Two hours drive and I'd end up with 5% battery because of interrupted wireless charging.

If I can go wired, I would. Just like my house are connected with 10Gbps LAN throughout every room.

Actually, so far everyone with wireless carplay claims it doesn't eat battery up fast. Sure wired allows your phone to charge, but for some of us who drive ~ 30 mins to work prefer wireless and it doesn't do much to battery life at all.

This is so frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that CarPlay is getting more expansion, but absolutely aggravating that the Tesla still doesn’t have it in its tech centered car. It’s audio interface system is absolutely archaic and Slacker is an a solute joke of an option. Sound quality is so damn good though, it’s a waste.

The basic multimedia system has a disc player, but only 4 speakers.

The new Camry does have a disc player.
