I was curious, so I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations. It seems a Boeing 777F can hold about 37 pallets. That works out to about 253,000 iPhones in boxes, total, per flight, based on box size measurements for a previous model. That many iPhones should still be under the weight limit, as well.

So if you figure Apple wants to have 3 or 4 million in-place on launch day, that's 16 flights. Seems very reasonable.

Well check this out:

Looks like a FedEx flight just departed not too long ago from Memphis enroute to Anchorage, Alaska... I wonder why? Probably to get those iPhones lol.

FDX23
FedEx #23 flight.

I ordered my 16GB White phone at about 3:05 EDT. Apple shows it Preparing for Shipment, but UPS tells "the rrrrrest of the story":

Location Date Local Time Activity
Addison, IL, United States 09/16/2012 5:24 P.M. Origin Scan
United States 09/16/2012 8:04 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

No trans-Pacific flight tracking for me. Friday will be a long day. My iPad3 wasn't delivered by UPS until after 5 pm!

Oddly, the Apple status shows the shipping method as "Holiday Shipping". Does anyone else's say that?

Has anyone reported a Fedex tracking number yet? I have only seen UPS. That will be an empty fedex plane at this rate.
