You sure they knew what you were talking about and didn't just give you credit for a phone they thought you owned outright?

I only ask this because a few years ago, in Connecticut, i tried this exact thing after I had issues the year prior with someone stealing my trade in at the FedEx depot in Norwich. I had to deal with Apple for weeks after that until they finally closed the case and sided with me.

Trying to avoid that mess again, the following year i went to an Apple Store hoping to just hand in my trade in after i had already received the new phone from UPS. However, nobody had any idea what i was talking about! They had actually never even heard of the iPhone Upgrade Program at that time. Not even the store manager who they got to come out to chat with me. They tried to give me a trade in value on the phone, not understanding what the iPhone Upgrade Program was or how it worked, and that it should just cancel the rest of the loan. It was completely bizarre. So i've never tried it again.

I'd be very happy to hear that they actually do this now, though.
Yes they do it now and it closes out your old loan. I’ve seen lots of people who turn their trade in physically in at the Apple Store vs mailing it in. Especially when they do in store pick up.

Happy to hear that. Only took a decade!

But that guy wrote that they gave him credit on his credit card? that part confused/worried me for him.

I hated the return containers, too. I took multiple images of both my phone and watch before packing and got credit for both in record time. Credit was as promised for each device.

My trade-in kit came yesterday, and it looks ridiculously flimsy. I'm thinking of stopping by the Apple store to see if they'll take my trade there, even though I already picked up the new phone on launch day and didn't give it to them then.
Yea I seen a lot of people at my local Apple Store do that

Theres even a few people like a black Apple Watch Ultra wearer that traded in both his series 10 Jet black and space grey Apple Watch Series 6 to get a higher value in a gift card

Even another person trade in lots of their old MacBook Air and MacBook Pro collected or used with their family and they do it in store as it’s multiple devices

I traded in my son's iPhone 13 a few weeks ago - it had a few minor nicks, but nothing major. I received an email stating it was re-valued at $0 b/c of shattered back glass. I called in, she actually emailed me a link to their evaluation photos. The back wasn't shattered at all. Turns out, someone basically clicked the wrong button on the evaluation. Within a few hours it was re-evaluated and I got the full trade-in amount.

Hiccups happen, but Apple is pretty good to work with given how large they are. If you're worried about packaging, I'd take photos or a short video of you packing it up to help cover yourself.

Sounds like more an (education) problem of the IUP then the trade in process itself. I don't really care how they look at my device, the end result was I got the expected amount back in my bank account and I'm good with thata.

UPS stole my phone in transit. I called APPLE to ask the current status and was told "the box was empty" when it arrived at the shipping center and that am only getting a partial credit. I am fighting it, and I have proof of a shipping receipt but ironically they didnt weigh my item, just say "0.0 lbs"

I set up a mail in return for my 17 Pro Max. I have an Apple store about 15 miles away but I am too busy to get there this week. But sending it back FedEx makes me nervous enough that I chatted with Apple support and asked if the store would take it if I brought it on Sunday (I got it on release day so technically Friday is day 14). They said that would be ok but I have my doubts. I’ll bring it and if they won’t take it, I guess I’ll be sending it.

I had FedEx “lose” a Note 20 Ultra that I ordered from Best Buy when it came out. I have little trust in FedEx.

That would make me way more nervous than a standard FedEx return. Citizens is in charge of the loan and I can easily see them restarting the loan for the old phone when there's no return activity at the 2 week mark.

Of all the apple products I had to return in the past. I never had a single issue with shipping it back to Apple with their shipping labels. They all have been delivered and it can take 48 hours or more for apple to process the returns. One thing I do is I use a different packaging box when I send them back as they won't know what's in side.

It is faster to return it directly to the store of course. But yes even though you'd be taking it in on Sunday, if you are polite and cordial about it, they may make an exception but in the event they don't, you have that option to mail it back since you already initiated the return and have shipping label.

Edit to add: if you do end up shipping it back, take a picture and make sure to drop it off at the actual Fedex ship and print center and ask for a receipt.

My return finally got delivered by FedEx. Status in App still shows "ship by Oct-6". I'll reach out to Apple tomorrow to confirm received.

Only difference for me this year, is it took nearly a week for the Apple trade-in box to arrive at my house. Always drop your trade-in at a store (or driver) and not a dropbox. It was FedEx 2 day, both were quickly accepted by Apple and trade-in amount (plus tax) refunded already.

how was the experience with Apple on the one that was lost?
They did about a 4 hours investigation and gave me the full credit for the missing watch. I don't know if it was a tracking error and they actually had it, or it was lost or stolen. Doesn't matter either way, they took care of it.

What return shipping method does Apple use ? Fedex ground or fedex express 2 day? Thanks
FedEx Ground. I dropped of there package, last Friday. FedEx had it on delivery last Sunday. No update from FedEx Monday or Tuesday. Notification comes it. Delivered yesterday at 2 PM and signed.

If you’re near an Apple Store, just take it there for the trade in. In my situation, I did the trade in when I ordered my 17 Pro Max. Received the trade in boxes. I needed a week to make sure I had everything off the phones; the main concern were my Authy and work Authentication apps/data. Once I had those good to go on the new phone, the following weekend, I took my 16 Pro Max to the Apple Store. Easy and fast experience, they do the diagnostics, all checked out and they credited my credit card for $700 plus tax.

The reason I will never mail in again is that I’m close to an Apple Store and I’ve read so many horror stories about Apple’s third party trade in company lying about damage that was not there to save themselves money or the phone getting stolen on the way there.

This is my experience.

I don't mind doing the trade-in in store [I prefer it]. Last time I did it the rep did it as a normal refund and I got stuck still paying for an iUP phone I no longer have. I even said multiple times, it's an IUP Trade. [NOPE].

received by apple (per fedex) on 10/1. still doesn’t show up as received by apple in my order history for apple
My phone arrived last Friday and says it was not received. I called in to Apple on Tuesday(UPS delivered) and they told me it the box arrived empty. Now I have done trade ins and its telling me the trade in center never even got the box.

I would wait until Monday but if you hear nothing, then call.

I’ve had good luck with my two returns but I can see how people would be nervous cause I am a little bit till I see it’s fully delivered and even then to get the full refund is when the nervous is finally over…

I ordered a new 17 Pro Max this year with going through the steps to trade in my wife's 13 Pro Max on Apples website. They quoted me $320 trade in value for the 13 Pro Max. The 13 Pro Max was pristine. No broken glass. No scratches. Nothing. Got the mail in kit from Fedex. Drppoed it off at a Fedex center down the street from my house. Woke up this morning with an email from Apple saying my trade in value was revised to $0 because the phone was an "Ineligible Device".

Called Apple today (the lady was very nice) and she looked up the notes on the trade in and they said "no broken glass, buttons function properly, device powers up, no damage to device" but still showed it as an "ineligible device". No notes as to why. She said she was going to escalate a review of the trade in to tell exactly why it is ineligible because it should be according to their notes. She said they will contact me within 48 hours with a resolution.

It's my first time doing a trade-in with Apple but I must say I am not impressed.

I always get nervous dropping off my trade in iPhone... (stolen in transit is the worry) UG!

I would use in store but I have a lot of financial apps and encryption apps that need to be transferred separately.

am I the only one?
I’ve dropped mine at FedEx every year since the IUP started, never had a problem.
