Test is flawed since S3 has a low max brightness compared to iphone 5 brightness. The S3 is very dim.

I don't know why people care so much about how dim the s3 screen is. Most of the time I only have it on about 30% and that's plenty bright.
If it is really sunny I'll whack it up to maximum and using it isn't a problem. Sure it's not mega bright, but what's the big deal?

Well im only pointing out the brightness cuz he used a flawed test.

I've used the Galaxy S3 and haven't noticed what you are noticing. The screen is Super Amoled so perhaps you're just noticing the colors. It is a very accurate phone. If you don't feel comfortable swap it out for another unit and see if it's the same.

As much as I dislike them - I actually believe that is their saving grace. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought AMOLED displays were actually MORE efficient than IPS LCDs.....IGZO LCDs will trump both, but we have to wait for that.

The relatively poor battery life for Android phones vs the iPhone (or disparity in size to achieve similar results) mostly stems from the poor optimization of the OS and bulk of the skins I would imagine, which in turn requires a much beefier processor setup to run as smoothly. Again - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Like I said before, AMOLED is actually less power efficient than IPS LCD IN REAL WORLD usage.its only good at displaying black, which makes it useless. Trust me, I've used both AMOLED (Galaxy Nexus) and LCD (iPhone), and the calibration, quality of LCD is much better. It is a known fact that LCD technology is much more mature than AMOLED. Go check out the Engadget iPhone 5 video loop test. The iPhone 5 is second longest in the world, (at about 9hr 50min) only beaten by RAZR MAXX. (About 10 hrs)

My opinion is, there is only one thing good about AMOLED and why it is the future: AMOLED can be flexible (like the Youm display)

People should just stop talking about the battery. The iPhone seriously owns everyone else in the battery department, I've used both high end Androids and iPhones as daily drivers so I know and I don't think any Android can last as long as iPhones.

Here: scroll down to the battery test:

If you triangulate all the results, across Engadget, the verge and AnadTech, each and every iPhone is the king or if not second runner up in the battery department in their own generation. iPhones are the most power efficient devices I have ever used.

In this endurance test which I think this better reflects real world usage than just looking at individual tests.

iphone5 (51h) is about the same as S3 (50h).

btw: Note2 is 69h which leaves the ip5 in the dust.

Right... Then again the Note 2 is in a complete different league with a "big-ass" battery, almost double of iPhones. If you compare the ratio of the battery size to usage hours, the iPhone most certainly beats everyone else in the market, including Razr MAXX

Then again Note2 screen is like twice the size of Iphone5. And we know screen consumes a major portion of battery.

Sure you win. I'm just trying to bring across the point that iPhones are the most power efficient devices, not literal comparison of the battery hours. If only something with a battery as large as RAZR MAXX, Note 2 or S4 can beat the puny battery of the iPhone 5 and only by a slight margin, this just goes on to show how power inefficient AMOLEDS and the Android OS are.

But the android operating system also does more, too. Just pointing it out. I'm currently enjoying the longevity of my iPhone 5 battery.

When its awake, probably, if you have many home screen widgets. However standby mode seriously sucks, it syncs the same notifications but yet drains faster. An iPhone on standby will probably only drop 2% overnight, whereas most androids will probably have dropped 10-30%.

generalization...

my S3 drops 4-5% overnight (8hrs) with many widgets and apps -tasker, skype, whatsapp app. and my note2 barely drops 1-2% over that period.

Ok - I'm actually a fan of LCD displays and prefer them, but quite a few reviews have mentioned the AMOLED in the GS4 provides the same color accuracy that IPS LCDs like that in the iPhone 5 reproduce......AMOLED looks to be maturing and catching up.

After owning the Note 2, it isn't as good on battery life as my iphone 5 which I am now back to using. End of day the Note would have 50-60 % left, and many adjustments to get it that good, while my iphone since 6:30am now and now 10am is still at 100%.

The iphone 5 lasts much longer especially when not using it. Android drops even when not using it.

True, but last I heard Retina screens pull more juice over AMOLED's.

Besides contradicting your own words when you had a Note 2 you are now the one person on the planet who claims the iPhone 5 has better battery life than the Note 2. Bravo!

I know you never supply proof when asked. But allow me to use your own words to refute, well, your own words.

Have had a iphone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S and 5. Now I have a Galaxy Note 2, and sorry I don't agree with you fanboys here. The Note 2 is a much better phone than the iphone 5 was. Screen size, resolution, features, size, weight, battery life, etc. It is built solid and I don't have to worry too much if I drop it as I did the iphone as it would either shatter, or dent/chip.

The Note 2 fits perfectly fine in pockets. It is not that big as you make it be. you guys are use to the little tiny iphone and need to get over it.

There you have it.

It would be an amazing feat of engineering if the iPhone 5's 1440 mAh battery could match the Note 2's 3000+ mAh battery - larger screen and all.....

I'm an iOS apologist and even I can admit the Note 2 has better battery life.

100% after 3 and a half hours? Either the battery needs calibrating or by my calculations it'll last forever!

Denial owns you. Owning both, SAME USE, I am getting better battery life from my Iphone 5 vs the Note 2. It has better battery saving software vs the Android software. What I do notice is WHEN YOU ACTUALLY use the phone heavy, the iphone 5 does go down more. But the Note 2 goes down when not even using it on it's own by a lot. So it depends what you are doing with it. I only had it for maybe 2 weeks max then. Yes using the Note 2 heavy, it actually does last longer, but when not using it the iphone lasts longer. So it's a 2-way street. But I rather when I am not using the phone it to last longer than when I am actually using it heavy. No reason for it to kill the battery when not using it.

Battery size doesn't mean anything. The O/S in how it behaves and handles the battery is what counts. Android phones have NEVER had good battery life. So they must increase the size of the battery dramatically to have good battery life unlike the iPhone.

Yeah but I did very little. Just texting and emails. It went down a good chunk from an hour long call and looking at radar and facebook during lunch. 88% now.

Have you no pride? I'll let my post, quoting your own words, decide who was pwned.

Posting crap from previous posts and putting words in my mouth just to start a pissing match is not good. So you are the one that needs to stop as it's against the forum rules.

He quoted what you said though... so what is he doing that breaks the rules?

Perhaps there is an issue with the Note 2 you own... My Note 2 comes home with 70% left and that is after some browsing, texting and phone calls throughout my 8 hour day. That is without any calibration other than adding my accounts that I sync. Also, both my S3 and Note 2's battery percentage decay at a very very slow rate when they are not in use.

I would have thought something was not right with your note 2 as I find standby time to be more or less equal between my old 4s and my s3.
I must admit though that occasionally it will drain heavily, but this is due to an app that hasn't closed properly, or the dreaded gpsd bug..

I posted a direct quote from your own post. You, know, with a link and all. What is wrong with you??

For no reason when it doesn't have anything to do with this thread. It's called thread crapping. Keep it up.

Bunch of children on today.

I'm getting roughly the same battery life with the note 2 as I am with the iPhone 5.
