This is the Internet bud. No chance of that happening. :p

Like was said above, the RETINA requires MORE POWER over AMOLED like the samsung phones. Facts are facts.

"Retina display, on the other side, is based upon traditional LCD TFT with IPS technology."

Power Consumption

LCD displays require a dedicated backlight to generate colors. This is also the reason why LCD doesn’t give you perfect black levels (even to display black it needs backlight!). This obviously increases the power consumption level of LCD.

Winner: AMOLED

There was a 15% increase in battery size from the 3GS(non retina) to the 4(retina). That's not much considering the other differences between the two. Also the 4S has only a 1% bigger battery than the 4. So a 16% increase from the 3GS to the 4S is really nothing when you include the upgraded processor, more ram, front cam, N wireless, and etc.

Now the 5 has all that the 4S has plus a larger screen and LTE. Only a 1% bigger battery life from the 4S. That's only a 17% increase from the 3GS.

I don't think retina made a huge differ in battery life. At least with the iPhone.

5 batt = 1440mAh
4S batt = 1432mAh
4 batt = 1420mAh
3GS batt = 1219 mAh

AMOLED consumes less power only with black backgrounds, otherwise they consumes more than TFT LCD

This is a clear generalisation that the only reason apple had to increase the battery capacity was for the retina display (not to mention slightly out on calculations).

What you lack to mention or understand is that the iPhone 4/4S/5 will have incrementally been better at managing the battery life better with newer processor/hardware and software.

Actually, I was arguing against that generalization. And my calculations are rounded correctly.

Your right, but only up to a certain point. Which is why my whole point of my post was to show that retina display doesn't make a huge battery difference like some claim. Only speaking about the iPhone though. Maybe with tablet or laptop sized screens, it makes more of a differ.

They are very slightly out even if you have rounded them. (I know this is sad :p)

5 batt = 1440mAh (18.12% larger than 3GS)
4S batt = 1432mAh (17.47% larger than 3GS)
4 batt = 1420mAh (16.48% larger than 3GS)
3GS batt = 1219 mAh

Yeah I see what you are saying here, i'm not greatly technical minded when it comes to power consumption !

And that one liner completely ignores the fact that white and colorful backgrounds (which is what the web contains) are worse for AMOLEDs.

AMOLEDs win only when you encounter black or dark, rest they drink juice, not sip it.

Here, an engineering paper on it:

I have a hard time believing these Anandtech test. I went on a 4 day camping/backpacking trip and my 4S died on the second day in the morning while i slept while my buddies 5 died that evening. My friend with a Note 2 was down to 15% on the third day when we were setting up camp (evening) AND usage on the Note 2 was the highest because we'd check it for GPS to verify our maps. Regardless it wasnt even close.

The battery life on the 5 would need to be doubled of the 4S to even get close. I've only seen praising of the Note 2 battery life meanwhile there are tons and tons of threads in the iPhone and iOS section here of people complaining about poor iPhone 5 battery life. While those might be software related they still exist. I don't know I don't have charts or anything just real world experience.

All things considered equal, I haven't charged my iPhone 5 in 4 days

Then post a screen shot. I'd love to see the 96 hour standby time.

Here was my 4S the best it's ever done with standby. Obviously less use would be more standby but I could never make it 4 days.

After owning a note 2 for 3 weeks I could NOT see going back to an iphone until they make some serious changes. I love apple computers and will not be giving up my mac anytime soon but ios is so stale and im sorry but tiny screens suck for media consumption

I have read all the reviews, i have seen all the videos also. Samsung Galaxy S3
is a great phone etc etc.

I traded the phone for my iPhone 4S and i know i can sell this phone but i really regret it. First thing i read is "the battery is great" BS. This thing drains pretty quick and i have locations services off, bluetooth off, GPS off etc etc.

I just plugged it in to my mac and this **** won't appear anywhere on the mac and i had to look for a stupid app called "Phonetunes" to sync some music from mac but i had to install on both phone and mac. (********)

It is pretty annoying how you have to sync music, that and the samsung (Kies) software also.

There is so much stuff on the phone that is not needed and i really can't believe this is all pre-loaded.

Basically feels like a new PC with all this software you will never use
pre-installed.

The phone has too many options it becomes pretty annoying.

i have been using iPhone 2g to 4S and i really think this phone is not that great.

I know this has been said over and over, "You don't realize how incredibly well and smooth iOS operates and how everything just works until you try android"

No Comparison

I will sell this phone as there is already buyers but i wanted to see if anyone here has tried this phone and maybe it is just me?I am the one lone soul who thinks it is not that great.

I think the other guy got the better end of the deal.(So far)
Though i used iphone 4s all year and will use this money for "New iPhone".

- Just drop your music on an SD card and put it in your SG3. Copy, paste, done. Don't bother with syncing nonsense. It's not an iPhone.
- If it's a new phone, the battery must still settle in. There is also an option to get a larger battery if needed. The battery life should be as good as an iPhone.
- Don't use the apps? hide them.
- Kies sucks, i'll give you that. :)
- Give it some time. You'll find a lot of stuff easier, handier, etc... on your Android.

I switched too. It's a good phone but a totally different beast compaired to the iPhone. Both have their advantages.

It's just you

You trade up and don't like it, trade back down to an iphone

All things considered equal, I haven't charged my iPhone 5 in 4 days

Then at least one of the following is true
1. The phone is dead now and you are posting from your computer
2. The phone is merely in standby or even airplane mode
3. You don't really use your phone

Or 4. He's lying.

Yup that's it!

I never said the incredible standby time wasn't on light usage. I don't see why you'd be surprised at 90 hours of standby if it benchmarks at 225 hours...

In any case, my response was just at cynics' assertion about Anandtech's benchmarks. I'm sure he was frustrated on his trip when both iPhones died so quick, but quite frankly the benchmark is the most reliable way to measure battery between devices b/c of how much variation users throw at their devices.

Also, I think iPhone 5 gets great standby time, I've never had any issues waking up in the morning and my iPhone randomly dying on me. My Nexus 4 on the other hand will be great sometimes, and then randomly drain 50% over night.

When I was on iPhone 4, I could barely get 1.5 days out of it no matter what I was doing. Come iPhone 5, I found the battery to be much more reliable. If I ever go through that light usage again, I'll post a SS. It is likely in a similar ball park of 3-4 hours of actual usage and just a lot of standby. But I'm sure you'd agree that the iPhone 5 should show significantly longer battery life than the 4S, if for nothing else then its more efficient LTE chip, especially factoring in Verizon 3G.

To clarify I wasn't frustrated. I expected the battery to die. Same with my buddy with and iphone 5 and other with a Note 2 and we use portable chargers to recharge them. My buddy with a note 2 battery did die but we were heading back at that point and had two iPhones that were somewhat charged and a dumb phone that was fully charged and off (4 people each had our own phones).

The point being even with a fully charged 4S with a 2000 mAh portable charger, the Note 2 last longer doing near exactly the same task.

I've never found Anandtech battery test to be that accurate for real world use even sometimes under rating the iPhone in comparison to other phones.

How do they test it? Load a web page repeatedly? Do they use Safari and Chrome? Because I find Chrome uses more battery then Chrome Beta. Firefox is a power hog compared to both. Are they on the same network? CDMA or GSM that makes a big difference. How was signal strength? Identical? How many cycles on each battery? Were the batteries completely topped off (unplugged and plugged back in)? Sometimes I get a bit more time from doing that on my iPhone. OEM chargers?

There testing might be accurate for a comparison but loading web pages till the battery dies is very unrealistic to real world use. Keep in mind a Note 2 with a colossal battery isn't using more power then an iPhone 5 in standby with the screen off.

This is why I prefer to rely on what I've seen in real life. I don't care what a chart says if I get 3 days on a single charge, I'd take it!
