Oh, I don't know. Maybe the inability to add multiple attachments to an email? How about clearing a single notification? Maybe you would like to use something other than Safari as your default web browser? How about accessing all your files? Maybe you want to get rid of those bloatware Icons from your screen, like Newstand? Or maybe you want to place icons wherever you feel like? Or how about adding more apps to a folder than say 12? What if I want to move a 1gb file from my phone to someone elses phone or tablet? Using an external sd card would be nice, wouldn't it?

These are just a few examples of why iOS and the iDevices that run on it are outdated. And why people are looking to phones like the S3. (And I didn't even bother to mention iOS's lack of bluetooth support for peripherals, lack of NFC, lack of customization other than changing your wallpaper, and so on...)

Apple has never catered to nerds like that. thats why there is choice in android

Well i dumped my S3 4.8" for an iPhone 5 4", and not missing it. Having a phone fitting in my pockets works for me, the samsung required a man bag, depending on the pants i wore that day.

Maybe you should consider wearing something other than skinny jeans? I'm glad your little iPhone fits when you wear this though. I wear regular jeans for men and have no issues with the S3 fitting in my front pocket:

Explain OSX then?

Hole, meet argument.

I meant for iOS. also why are you taking this so personally ? just use the other competition if what apple is doing you don't like. no need to be barking at anyone that prefers iOS .

No shame in buying pants from WalMart, but WalMart pants don't fit my style

I'll try and reply tomorrow as I'm on my phone but most of what you said it ridiculous.

Thanks

Understand. Typing on that little keyboard sucks, as does Apple's auto-correct. :D Maybe you should use another keyboard... ohhh, that's right. You can't. ;)

No, I just can't be arsed to pick apart your stupid post when I'm busy away from my Mac.

Tbh, what's to pick apart? Everything he said is true tbh.

Someone could nit pick the post a bit for example you can add multiple attachments to an email as long as its a picture/video. You still cannot add multiple PDF files which annoys me.

I do agree where he said replying to a long post in tapatalk on iOS is annoying. I much prefer tapatalk on Android. Everything else he (siiip5) said seems accurate.

I was actually referring to documents, spreadsheets, mp3's, etc.. when adding anything to an email. Without a file manager the process to do such a simple task is denied to the user. It is about as stupid as Apple can get, in their attempt to control every facit of the OS.

I honestly don't know how you can keep using that iphone of yours? Masochistic? :D

Let me translate this. Here is what you really thought, "It is too difficult and the keyboard sucks on iOS for me to attempt to reply to this post."

Don't worry. Those of us that have used iPhones for years know the real reason.

I don't know about you, but I don't like typing a novel on an iPhone (or any phone for that matter), and would rather type them on my Mac. So the other guy really does have a point here.

No, but for some reason buying $120 jeans that costed 80 cents to manufacture is OK, because that probably does fit your style. Unlike Apple products, jeans don't have much R&D, and have been the same for over 45 years now, despite the change in styles. What more R&D are you going to put towards denim to require a $120 pricetag? Buying expensive jeans is NOT the same thing as buying an Apple product, or a luxury car, or any other luxury product that actually has R&D behind it.

This doesn't make sense, as an iPhone is not a desktop computer, and shouldn't be treated as such. Though I do love the open-nes of Android, I am an iOS user myself, mainly tied because of the Apple eco-system. Windows RT for tablets is just as restricted as iOS, it just has two interfaces to choose from.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe the inability to add multiple attachments to an email?

This can be done.

How about clearing a single notification?

Non issue

Maybe you would like to use something other than Safari as your default web browser?

Safari is fine and syncs over iCloud with Macs and iPad etc

How about accessing all your files?

What for?

Maybe you want to get rid of those bloatware Icons from your screen, like Newstand?

Bloatware? jeez

Or maybe you want to place icons wherever you feel like?

No. Nothing wrong with the grid style. You can clear icons off a screen if you're that fussed.

Or how about adding more apps to a folder than say 12?

Maybe organise the phone a bit better?

What if I want to move a 1gb file from my phone to someone elses phone or tablet? Using an external sd card would be nice, wouldn't it?

Dropbox

ok. My bits in read. Can't believe I wasted my energy on this. Most of what you've mentioned are your issues not a general consensus.

it's not for everyone. there will always be people that prefer the "simplicity" of ios

And yanno, the better "frame rate" and "ease of use" stuff.

I leave my work to OSX and my gaming/moding/hacking to Windows becasue that's the better OS for the job. I don't need to hack on the fly so iOS is prettier, more fluid, has a better game selection, easier to use (albeit less customisation) and an ecosystem of products that work well together.

If you have an iPhone a Mac and an Airport extreme, they are all apple products and Apple love that you've given them all this money but for that price you get complete compatibility. I can open Router ports from my phone with airport utility.

The oppisite of that is lets say samsung. If you have a Samsung laptop and a Galaxy S3 you might as well have a Sony Erricson phone and a Lenovo computer the two devices are as alien to each other as any competing manufacturuer hands down.

So while us iOS simpltons don't feel the need to write a game while waiting for the bus but we certainly have higher expectations of reliability and fluid graphics.

Maybe you would like to use something other than Safari as your default web browser?

Why? For some gimmicky feature? Because the best browser for iOS is Safari no competition. Using Opera or Chrome on iOS is just being a hipster.

That's right! I haven't liked them since that one time they had the audacity to NOT shower Apple with golden praise! How dare they!

Yeah...because that's exactly what I was saying...wait...no it wasn't....

Thanks for the broad, sweeping assumptions about me, though; they do everyone a lot of good.

If you'd like more clarification or explanation, that's fine, and I'd be more than happy to oblige, but you've come across as little more than an ignorant buffoon. Something I'm sure you're not, right?

Edit: "It's called putting words into other peoples mouths. You do that quite a bit." Perhaps you ought to head your own advice?

Safari is best because that is what Apple tells you and forces you to use.

Chrome is better for me. I came to that decision, and not Apple. I use it on my mac and lo-and-behold it is the default browser. What a concept.

It's rather sad when the only defense iOS defenders have for its shortcomings nowadays is "why?"

Want more than 8 tabs? Why?

Want a better default email app? Why?

Want a bigger screen? Why?

Etc., etc.

So you go right ahead and keep asking why as the competition screams: WHY NOT???

Actually, Apple has conditioned them not expect much of anything. Look at iOS. Looks the same as it did in 2007. iFans response to this is "Why fix it?" To that I say, well why bother updating the OS at all then?
But of course, as soon as Apple steals a Google idea (pretty much all they have done in iOS5 and 6, still get a kick out of Apple calling "Priority Inbox", the "VIP" Inbox or their inability to copy Google Maps) - then it becomes all praise for these ideas by the fanboys. Here are some classics, from this very board:

2011
"iPhone is perfect at 3.5 inches. I don't want a bigger phone. I'm glad Apple kept the 4S this size"
And now:
"iPhone 5 is the perfect size at 3.99 inches. I don't need a bigger phone."

2011
"3G is fast enough. I don't want LTE, cause it will effect battery life. LTE is not needed anyway"
And now:
LTE on the iPhone 5 is amazing! This is awesome. How could those Fandroid fools buy the Nexus 4? It doesn't even have LTE!"

2010:
"iOS4 is perfect. Why would I bother with a notification center, when I can just open the email or sms app?"
2011:
"iOS5 is awesome! Check out the Notification Center. It even tells me the time! So innovative of Apple!"

2013:
iFans still insist things like a 'back' button, LED notifications, external memory cards, 2gb of RAM, ability to place icons where you like, use widgets, and so on is superfluous and not needed. But as soon as Apple adds it, well, it becomes the greatest thing since sliced bread. NFC is next and all the iFanboys will come out in droves, claiming how innovative Apple has been in bringing the technology to the iPhone 6.

Yeah, why give users options! No one should be allowed to use anything other than Safari, cause it is the awesomest browser ever made. It can do everything.

You know why Safari is smooth on iOS devices? Because Apple refuses to allow other browsers access to their API. They are doing everything in their power to force you to use their stuff. It's a good browser, not saying it isn't, but is it really the best for every single person? Answer = No
I use and prefer Chrome. Luckily, I have a phone that allows me the option to make it my default browser. Or I could make Firefox, Opera, Boat, Maxthon or a whole slew of other browsers my default browser. Why? It's called choice. Maybe you live in North Korea and are used to a Stalinistic dictatorship, where having choices are viewed negatively? I don't know?

ok. My bits in read. Can't believe I wasted my energy on this. Most of what you've mentioned are your issues not a general consensus.

LOL. Your responses are typical. See above. I do love how you believe you can add any attachment you want to an email, much less multiple attachments. Try this, add an mp3 file, an excel spreadsheet, and a powerpoint brief to one email. Then take a screenshot and have Macrumors host your jpg image. Good luck

Then when I mention having access to all your files, you say, "What for"? Seriously? Why do you need access to any files on any computer? May be because you want to delete, update, add to, send a file, or *gasp* a folder filled with files. I realize these are foreign concepts to you, but you should try it out. It's amazing and innovative.

And your answer to transferring a 1gb file to someone is to use Dropbox? From your iPhone that is lucky to see 1mb upload speeds in England, on your 3G network?
Lost cause...

Not at all friend, I am by no means trashing thrid party applications. Many of the best apps are third party for ios, OSX android and everything.

I am simply pointing out a mentality among some pro active apple hating android users that the default is never good.

As in they would use square wheels for their car and mock all those blind sheep who use circular ones.

I use google maps for my maps because apples default maps app sucks. I use ProTools for my studio instead of apples Logic.

I use the best software I see fit and sometimes I'm lucky enough that that it the default :)

Ahem no, I said it was the best for iOS, not for OSX, although I'm pretty sure it wins in JavaScript benchmarks there too.

Weird, Apple's Safari has "some of" the fastest Benchmarks on Apple's devices? May be because Apple won't license out any code to competitor browsers? Hence why Safari actually has crappy benchmarks on any other type of computer. And even on Macs, it isn't the fastest in every category. Not even with Safari 6! Take a look online.

iFans still insist things like a 'back' button

iOS has had a software back button since the beginning, it's just not identical in implementation to the Android one (Android one goes back through apps and not just the one app). That's the only difference as far as I know (off the top of my head - haven't given it a great deal of thought).

this is all just crap. They are two very different oses. One reaches out to the audience who dont need the extra features of android. iOS is simple, easy to setup, easy to use as a non power user, syncs well with any other apple product, and is reliable and secure. Android is more powerful, has a filesystem, but it takes hours of modding and customising to become as reliable and as simple as iOS.
Its like Mac/Windows vs. Linux. Most of the world are on these two operating systems because they dont care for the beeifits of Linux and open source software.
Most people dont need to attach multiple files to an email, or transfer a 1gb file from computer to phone. Most people need an easy and fast way of surfing the internet, sending texts and emails or playing games and android just doesn't have that simplicity yet.
A much better comparison would be Windows Phone and iOS. Both have desktop operating systems, have an ecosystem, are for the non power users. WP8, in my opinion, blows iOS out of the waters in every single reasonable comparison other than app selection. WP8 fails miserably, because not enough people know of it yet.

Not at all. Apple has long held the position that different devices are ideal for different uses. A computer is ideal for getting real work done, hence OS X. A cellphone is ideally, first and foremost, a portable phone. Hence the emphasis on battery life, simplicity and efficiency, slim and lightweight design, and ease of use.

That is great. But what is not great is having to be lucky. Wouldn't it be better if you got to choose what browser you want to use, or which map app?

I don't mean choose to run by launching the app. I can hide Safari away into some out of the way springboard folder and happily use Chrome. But the moment I tap on a link somewhere, such as in an email, text, or even an app Safari rears its ugly head again.

Heck, if Apple released an Android version of Safari (choke lol) I would be able to make that the default browser.
