Transfer number at AT&T store?

My sister is trying to switch from virgin mobile prepaid to AT&T prepaid with an iPhone.

The iPhone will come from ebay, she just needs her number transfered over and the sim card.

Can an AT&T store do all of this? onlines not an option.

I remember when i switched from T-mobile to Cingular, I had to notify T-mobile that I wanted to transfer my old number before I cancelled my t-mobile contract first, and told ATT that I wanted to keep my old number from t-mobile.

Yes they can. I don't know about the pre-paid part though. Just be sure to take all the info AT&T requires its your number on Virgin and your SS# to do your credit check.

I'm actually not sure about prepaid. I know transferring is possible from a prepaid to a postpaid account (as I have done), but AFAIK, they won't allow prepaid to prepaid transfers. I could be wrong, so your best option is just go to an ATT store and ask. However, the ATT stores do stock SIM cards for both prepaid and postpaid so you won't have to worry about that.

I'm not sure about prepaid phones but I had to provide my verizon account number to ATT and they submitted the request for transfer. It all went smoothly but it was a standard account.

As others stated, go to an ATT store and find out for sure, be sure to bring all pertinent information, such as the account information to the store as well.

Yes the AT&T store has new SIMs for Pre-paid and Post-paid plans.

Your problem is the iPhone. AT&T does not support iPhones on a Pre-paid plan. You need to port the Virgin Mobile number to an AT&T Pre-paid SIM and then and only then put the SIM in the iPhone. Do you have another phone that she can put the pre-paid SIM into for the initial activation with AT&T? Does she plan to use a data plan? Again, AT&T does not support the iPhone data plan on a pre-paid account.

It also depends on which iPhone you are getting from eBay, is it an original iPhone, or 3G?
