The only thing I've found that's great for plane use for email, video, games, etc. is the iPad. Using the 15" MBP was hard... I had to tilt the screen at a weird angle and my neck hurt from looking at it at a weird angle.

The iPad was much more maneuverable plus everyone behind you won't be checking out what you're doing. Granted, if you work on Power Points on the plane, you may be out of luck.

I fly very frequently and I would never carry around a 15 MBP. Not only does it take up the entire tray but as others have pointed out, if the person in front of you reclines their seat, you're going to be pretty uncomfortable. Also, I would expect packing and unpacking the 15 a hassle too if the plane is full.

The 11 MBA is perfect for planes, IMO, although I do prefer the 13 MBA for cross Pacific flights for the longer battery. The iPad is also ideal, if you don't fully need a laptop.

For business class, however, a 15 or even a 17 MBP would be fine.

Why not go with 15" MBP and an iPad 2 (or perhaps 3?) With the iPad, you are always in sync, unlike having the MBA instead. I have no idea what you'll be using your laptop on the plane, but I'm pretty sure all the daily e-mail, web surfing, Youtube, etc can be done with iPad. I have used my 13" MBP on flights couple of times recently, and they are still too big on the tray (unless it's business class like thuglove pointed out.)

In this situation I'd get the 15" MBP but stick with the netbook on the plane. Use the MBP in the airport, hotel or wherever you're going to.

The netbook will be much more versatile than an iPad as you can use it for entertainment and regular work without too much hassle. Plus you already have it.

Awww, you have been here a month and already jaded? :/

Uh... yeah... sure, I've only been here for a month. :)

No, like I said, I am *trying* to make up my mind. I have OBVIOUSLY researched it before coming here and asking. I am just trying to get perspectives, which is what this forum EXISTS for.
I see it differently. You really want the 15MBP and are looking for people to tell you to get it.

Hey, that's OK friend! But the majority of posts are discouraging you from doing this for plane travel yet you still cling to this notion. :)

You will be using your mac more "off" a plane than on. Perhaps you should base your decision on CPU/GPU power needs in a non-travel environment rather than size it down just for tight spaces. Then... find a smaller and much cheaper alternative for the simple things you do on a plane.

There, I just rationalized your 15" purchase for you. Go get it! :D

I have flown a few times with a 13" and the size is about perfect, Just have to watch out for the people in front of you reclining,... almost cost me a screen.

I take 2-4 flights per week (some coach, some first) and use my 15" all of the time. Cant beat the extra screen real estate and resolution ... :)

+1

I've experienced the same thing with the 13". I don't fly very often, but it almost happened once.

It gives me an excuse to get an iPad 3 when it comes out.

Are you that fat guy I sit next to that keeps hogging my tray table? If so...

1.) Keep your elbows off my arm rest.
2.) Don't ask to sit your drink on my tray table.
3.) Plug in your headphone *before* you start your cheesy movie.
4.) Better yet, just keep that 15" behemoth at home where it belongs.

Enjoy your flight! :D

Seriously, do you think you're actually funny?

I see, you were warned/banned too many times for being obnoxious? had to make a new account?

Who cares how you see it? I am telling you exactly what it is. What's wrong with this guy???

HAHAHA so funny!

Seriously, did you not read the part where I said I have researched every facet and I am asking just one more question on top of the research I have already done. Polling the forum just for *opinions*. I never said the traveling point will make or break my decision in buying it. Looking for pros and cons.

Seriously, what do you think a forum is for? If you feel that you are jaded with these questions, then maybe you spend too much time here.

:D!!!! LOLOMGHAHAHAROFL...

The 15" is a bit big for planes and most buses. It's really a stretch to use it on the go and in a cramped space. Then again, I would never go with a 13" because I love the screen real-estate and the added power. The 15" is significantly less portable (it is still thin and light and easily fit in most backpacks and briefcases) than the 13". But, it is significantly more powerful.

Depends if your going on economy, business or first class.
If economy, 13 would be for you.
If any other upper class, 15 should be fine.

I use my 17in on business and first class a lot with no problems.
