hi friends! i’m an astrophotographer from boston. made the trip up to maine for the last milky way shoot of the year and thought i’d give my new phone a whirl.

it’s not the milky way but wow!
more of my work can be found here

hoping clear skies continue tonight so i can try a shot of the galactic core.

20 seconds using Night Mode on the standard lens! I used a tripod for this.

it says shutter speed is 1 second but it was 20. i think this app hasn’t been updated to understand night mode yet.

i took this image of orion in feb 2013, i guess on an iphone 5. i probably used cortex cam, which stacks photos. focus and stability were poor - this was hand-held. it will be interesting to see what the iphone11 can do in a similar situation! anyway there's no metadata in the image so i can't say exactly what i did, it was too long ago...

Oh!! Awesome! One thing I have wanted to do is to take some awesome star pictures such as these. I must try this again now that I have the new Pro.

The best part is how it doesn’t just try to overexpose the sky for the sake of catching more detail. I love that it keeps the sky black and just brings out the stars. Good stuff.

Amazing shots. I’ve gotten night mode to 10s. The darkest the more you can go. I didn’t know this until I read it this past week. The longer the better.
