20 seconds using Night Mode on the standard lens! I used a tripod for this.

it says shutter speed is 1 second but it was 20. i think this app hasn’t been updated to understand night mode yet.
Brilliant... Thanks for the info, that clears everything up. I may try this myself when we get a clear night. Way way too much rain/cloud/winds. My tracking mount is itching to try out something different.

Nice pic! I want to see someone go somewhere really dark like Death Valley and take a few dozen shots and stack them together. Should be interesting.

Let's do a special collection of just astro-photography, using the iPhone 11 night mode or various iPhone apps that give us the ability to stack photos.

I used "Slow Shutter" to take light trails of the stars. One of the things you have to do is turn off automatic phone lock, and change your settings to keep the phone from going to sleep. You can take as long as you want for open shutter. But the official iPhone App only lasts 30 seconds.

i considered this but it’s wayyyy too hard to get consistent shots that look similar enough to stack. if we had manual focus and more control of exposure time we will.

NightCap which I purchased when it was titled NightCap Pro now supports both iOS13 and the iPhone 11 Pro. The App itself produces exceptional shots. Has built in Long Exposure, Light Trails, Stars Mode, Star Trails Mode, ISS Mode, Meteor Mode. On top of this you can also add brightness, reduce noise, convert to B&W and finally has FOC, EXP & WB.
I’m just waiting for this horrible weather we currently have in the UK to clear so I can use the app with the iPhone 11 Pro Max

Forgot to mention:- It also has a great Watch App which allows you to control Light Boost, Timer, Long Exposure & Light Trails.

This is? Looks pretty good.

If you don’t mind, I would love to use this as a wallpaper on my 11 pro! What a fantastic pic!

it shouldn't matter if you use something like DeepSkyStacker, APT, StarTools, or PixInsight to register and stack your images. all of those programs will normalize the images before stacking.

focus is of course important but the exposure time is not, as long as the exposures are "long enough".

Holy cow, great pictures.

I am also confused, though, did you take the pictures as JPEG (most compatible), rather than HEIF (most efficient)? Or is the EXIF information just incorrect?

One thing I would really like Apple to do is to move the Pro settings to a switch labeled "Pro" with more adjustment options and for the casual reduce that to the bare minimum.
