If the watch doesn't need to be connected to the phone after the initial pairing, whats to stop it getting used if stolen?

Loss and theft are not Apple Pay problems. Apple pay has to be activated once with your phone after you put the watch on. After that it stays active until it's removed from your wrist, at which time it locks.

an interesting question though. What happens if your watch gets lost or stolen? the only way to disable the apple pay is to cancel your cards.

I was a backer of a number of all-in-one credit cards (coin for example, even though they look like they have gone bust)...and one of the security features was that the card had to connect with your phone each hour or it disabled itself...so even if you lost the card, it would disable itself.

If your watch gets lost or stolen, I imagine you'd do the same as with the iPhone 6. You can go onto iCloud.com and disable Apple Pay on the watch. No need to cancel your cards. The original card numbers aren't even stored on the Watch, same way they aren't stored on the iPhone 6.

Edit: Also, from what I hear, once you take off the Apple Watch it needs to be authenticated again before Apple Pay will work. Could be entering a pin on the Watch or validating with your iPhone. I've heard different things.

Replacing a decent watch? Get a Stainless Steel Model!

I dunno the aluminum one looks like a toy to me. But to each there own.

If you are planning on replacing your Movado, Citizen, or any other moderately expensive watch with an :apple: Watch, do yourself a favor and purchase a Stainless Steel model.

After my try-on appointment, I cannot believe the massive difference in look between the two. I couldn't shake the feeling that I had a fitness tracker or "mini-phone" strapped to my wrist when trying on the sport. The SS model is definitely more of a jewelry piece (or similar to a traditional watch).

Not to say the Sport is ugly or anything, I just couldn't imagine it looking great in a business-type setting.

Looking forward to my SS model arriving soon!

Good point. The SS is definitely more flashy, but also it weighs more so it feels more like a real watch rather than a fitness tracker.

I am a C-Suite character and I am getting the Black Sport with the Black leather loop. I think this will look fine.

A couple of things to note:

1) A lot of my colleagues in the C-Suite wear fitness trackers (both Nike Fuel Band and the Jawbone) so you don't have to be wearing a rolex to look business like.

2) I think the leather loop dresses up the space-grey sport nicely.

3) I tried the Black Stainless Steel 42mm (my original plan to purchase) but I found a number of issues with it:
- stainless steel link bracelet feels lightweight and cheap compared with those on my swiss watches (Rolex Explorer II and Corum Admiral's Cup)
- the links seem to pinch and pull my hairs

4) I find the regular polished Stainless Steel watches to look poorly designed - something odd about the contrast of the gloss black screen and the shiny silver metal. They should have gone for a matte stainless finish like you see on most Swiss watches these days.

Your comment really just drove home the reason why Apple couldn't just release ONE model of Apple Watch as with the iPhone. The Watch really is a more personal item and because of how long regular watches have been around, they are more customizable and have to appeal to a much wider variety of tastes.

Is the color of the space black SS model you tried on gunmetal in color like in the display case or totally pitch black?

I'm in that business setting and I'm an engineer. So it's two fold. It needs to look nice and it needs to be the latest technology.

I realize that. I was saying you can enjoy using it in the store more than once as you wait for the thing to arrive. I for one am glad I went. It really gave me a better idea of what to expect.

I wish I didn't have to pay (at least) $10 to park every time I needed to go to my Apple Store. I'd be there all the time.

I'm actually just waiting for the surprise of it for the first time. Not gonna try it on until it's in my hands ;)

I'm actually going again this weekend to try on some different bands. I focused on the flubber and Milanese last time.

Anybody else going for a second appointment?

Went for my third and final appointment today . Had ordered a 38 and 42 sport (was going to go SS but realised I will end up upgrading to the next version due to the missing pieces in the puzzle currently, whether it be a 12 months or two years). Needed to make final decision so I could release one back into the system. Went for the 38. I'm female with relatively slim wrists.

My thoughts exactly. I think the Sport is a safe way to go for a 1st gen. Who knows how long before a new one is out?

I'm guessing that the Apple Watch probably won't launch in EU (outside DE/UK) until late Q4 and that a successor probably won't release within a year of that. So my bet is on late Q4 2016 for Apple Watch 2.

Very good point. Especially considering the fact that they are selling a $17,000. It really makes me wonder how they will handle upgrades to the watch going forward?

The watch works with Apple pay after you activate a code and as long as you keep it strapped to your wrist.

When the watch senses that you took it out of your wrist, the Apple pay function gets deactivated, and it needs the pin code to start working again.

That's cool. They all function the same so.

The :apple:Watch is a toy. It's the toy I have been wanting Apple to make for years. I use my iPad and iPhone for work, but they are also toys to me too.

So I don't mind if it looks like a toy to some.

I prefer the look of the SS, but I bought the aluminum because of the price.

It is like a matte gunmetal. Darker than the Space Grey phone but not black.

Almost reminds me of the iPod touch. If I recall correctly it was a different shade than the iPhone 5.

It only needs the PIN if you're outside the range of your paired phone.

Also, worth noting is that you have to register your cards with the watch separately from the phone. It doesn't just inherit the cards registered with your phone. It's a totally separate device and will have a unique device ID associated with it. This means it can be disabled in the online verification system, without having an impact on your phone's card registration or anything else.

One downside to how it works, for some people with weird fashion taste I guess, is that it must be worn on the skin, on the top of your wrist, to work with Apple Pay. It will be watching for your heartbeat as its deadman's switch :)

Does anyone know what kind of distance u can be from your phone to still receive calls/notifications on the watch? Can I leave my phone in my locker when at the gym and be 10m away?
