Could this be where you're going wrong? Android doesn't seem to like it when you manually clear all the apps. It's set up to manage this automatically so that apps launch quickly.

I've heard that before as well with Android. Even if I didn't clear my apps I would still get some lagging.

For the sake of experimentation I enabled Art over Dalvik and out does smooth out scrolling to a noticeable extent in chrome and Facebook.

Interesting! I never messed around with switching that. :p

Well, in part because I'm still in my 14 day return window. I'm just not happy with the S5 for many reasons. I can't see myself hanging onto a device that I dislike for another 5-6 months.

Yup, same here. Love the screen, love swype, and love sharing options between apps. But that's it. The hardware looks and feels cheap (earphone vibrates on a call from the speaker's voice, chrome bezel looks horrendous, charging port cover is super annoying and charging port itself is crude, etc). My next go round in Android land will definitely be something with more refinement.

I've played with so many Android phones over the past few years. I think I just need to come to the realization that I am an iPhone guy. Accept the negatives of it and move on.

I'm probably going with the M8 and then the next IPhone if I like it enough I will sell my 5S which was my first from Apple.

I'll call it quits after that. I personally do not see myself continuing hopping around with Android phones. To tell the truth, earlier ones would have sufficed for my personal needs. Incremental upgrades are not worth it considering the cost to flip.

Get out while you can if you don't like it. I held on to my GS4 for two months and wasted an upgrade on that terrible device, only to pay for An iPhone 5S out of pocket to replace it.

Still undecided on the S5. As if right now I'm mostly favorable on it.

yes, please use art if your device has it

yes its beta, but no it doesnt feel like it

I thought GS5 didnt have ART?

GS5 does indeed have ART in the developer options.

Why not just wait for iPhone 6?

If he buys a 5s today he can sell it when the iPhone 6 comes out and recoup most of the full retail cost of the 6.

I wouldn't stick with a phone for another 5-6 months if it made me miserable. :p That's a loooong time.

If the M8's camera was better, I'd be all over it. But frankly it sucks and I need a better camera on my phone so that instantly rules it out for me.

I feel like the S4 was better for me. Too many little quirks about the S5 are driving me crazy like the flap over the charging port, the way the LED lights up even when blocking mode is on, the way that GPS has to be turned on in order to use the weather app/ widget. The inconsistent app performance also drives me crazy. stuttering here and there is also completely unacceptable in 2014 on a flagship device.

You can just leave the port cover open cant you? I had one on my GS1 Vibrant and i hardly ever closed it. When i did it was like no effort at all. Makes me laugh that something simple is annoying to some.

Makes me laugh when people have no idea what they are talking about. you could leave it open but then you'd have a small piece of plastic sticking out of your phone (until it breaks off which its bound to do eventually?).

Tried the GS5... Returned It... #Unimpressed

Agreed.

I have very little to complain about with the s5 (can't stand the s4). The occasional stutter people are harping on will be fixed with an update, I am assuming. I know there is already an update to increase performance rolling out to the international model.

Honestly, I would have trouble going back to my 5s.

Exactly. There's no way to just leave it dangling because it looks and feels horrendous AND the phone will continue to remind you that the cover isn't closed.

These are all minor annoyances, but a bunch of minor annoyances adds up to a general experience that just isn't as refined. Coming from an iPhone 5s, it's pretty jarring. Again, love Android. But there are too many compromises on the hardware. The HTC One M8 might be a good alternative, but the camera is terrible in daytime conditions.

Have all those that experience lag enabled developer options?

Settings>About Phone>Tap on Build number 7 times.

The go into Developer options, scroll down and turn off Window animation scale, Transition Animation Scale, Animator Duration Scale and tick Force GPU rendering.

Once I did the above with my SGS3 and SGS4 they flew.

The jerky scrolling in several apps, notably browsers, is a very real thing that it's present in all android devices, including the Nexus line.

Thus far I'm enjoying my S5 though. The screen is just amazing, and the overall experience is very good with only the occasional hiccup. And the camera is the best of any android phone I've ever used.

I can confirm that.
Chrome has noticeable stuttering after a while on my nexus 7 and a temporary solution is to close the app and wipe the ram before start it again. Quite annoying since when it happens I have more than 1 Gb of free ram.

I'm waiting for the "Nexus 6" or whatever they are going to call it.
I really hope on a 450€ device with no flaws, since nexus 5 was a good 340€ device with some corner cut to keep the price low.

I surely am an iPhone guy, but I'm also a tech enthusiast and always need two phones with me. I'm waiting for the iPhone 6, but if they are going to raise the price again, I promise I'll jump ship.

Do you like to going around with the port cover dangling on your 700$ device ???

Has there ever been a perfect device?? I highly doubt we'll ever get the "perfect device without any flaws"

I must of got a perfect S5, have no lag, no vibrating speaker/buzz or whatever people are talking about, have iPhones still too. Some on xda had a lag of a couple seconds, no clue there, mine is just as responsive as my iPhones when using home button, switching screens, or multi. Flap on the charge port doesn't bother me at all, easy to take out, plus my S2 died in water so to me it's priceless (after being careful with that phone for so long lol). Plus this thing actually takes sweet pics and vid under water haha. First phone where I have no worries, go on the boat no worry, our dock no worry, pool with splashing or dogs running around or kids... no worry. I get why some don't like the feel of it, plastic isn't going to feel like metal, but it doesn't feel cheap either. Either way 99.9% of the population puts cases on their phones so your covering up that metal anyway, I put a Rearth Slim on mine which I love, and it's grippy/feels great.

Battery life is ridonculous on this phone even in heavy use, first phone I've had where I also have no worry about getting to a charger or being out and about. Plus worst case you can enable power save mode which will last hours upon hours even if your below 10%, haven't had to do that yet though lol but nice to keep in mind if I have too.

Not having root though does suck balls on AT&T. Pry be awhile before root is ever exploited on this version and even then will pry have no workaround of Knox trip. Just like the AT&T version of the S4, unless you got an early loki one, you were stuck with safestrap and tw based roms barely tweaked (at least nothing like the tw roms on my S2)

you just got the wrong phone, the vibration, charge port, chrome bezel, and looking and feeling cheap are all things i picked up on within 5 mins in a store. I would never use a upgrade on a Samsung phone.

And for outright they are same price as a iPhone, madness.

And it should be, to Alot the S5 does Alot better things than the iPhone. I couldn't see hardly any positives getting an iPhone over a flagship Samsung to be honest

Of course that could change with the iPhone 6. guess we will see

Better things ? Pretty subjective I'd say .... and maybe related to the "galaxy ... Galaxy ... Galaxy ..." list in your signature
