I thought Sandforce controllers don't need TRIM and that using it can cause issues. I asked Apple about this and they said that enabling TRIM on non-Apple supplied drives could lead to problems and they would not support this. Use at your own risk.
That is correct, but since I have an Intel 320 which does not have sandforce, and I might be interested in getting an SSD with Sandforce, that is why I asked my question.
Just replace the text "APPLE SSD" with "INTEL SSD" in the original Lion kext (two places).

With the current state of Sandforce controllers and some of the issues and failure rates they are causing I would avoid them if possible. I will roll with Intel for the time being.
Oh I am not running Lion. Snow leapord 10.6.8. Will this still work? Thanks!

Even the OWC mercury Extreme? I was really thinking of going with that one, because OWC seems to be very mac friendly and have plans to role out a Mac OS native firmware updater.
Although they seem not too need it. Apparently the last time they had a firmware update, was almost a year ago.
As long as you use the correct kext it should work. The IOAHCIFamily kext have the same version number in 10.6.8 and 10.7.0 but the included IOAHCIBlockStorage kext is not the same (1.6.4 in 10.6.8 and 2.0.0 in 10.7.0).
Really? Got sources? What about the dreaded 8MB Intel SSD bug? That's still not fixed entirely (and it's been a good long while since that one cropped up).
Stop spreading FUD. Sandforce doesn't have the most perfect track record, but Intel isn't all peaches and cream either. They've got their own fair share of issues of late.

I'll make this easy for even you to understand. Sit up straight and pay attention.
After reading Anandtech and a few other sites as well as having not one, not two, not three, but four Sandforce controlled SSD die on me, my view of Sandforce controllers is not the best. Please stop me if I am going to fast for you.
Second, I never said that Intel was the best, but the best for me. Did you read how the 8 gig bug was being introduced on the 320 drives by Intel? Go check it out and see if it makes sense. Also, some people are having problems while more than most aren't. I updated my drive and have no issues at all. I don't know about you but in my book, lacking a problem is a plus.
Third, I don't give two tosses what you use or install in your devices. I am saying what works for me. You can put whatever you want, from whatever manufacturer that you desire. I, (pay attention now) could not care less if your lose all your data or not.
Hope that helps you to understand my position a bit more. If need be, I put a few Powerpoint slides just in case I was too fast for you.

* if you do this in SL, make sure you have Time Machine backup or another install to boot from and restore kext if something go wrong. in Lion, you can just boot the help partition and restore the kext, I'll post instruction when somebody ask

Notes:
- "Enable Trim" button does not enable trim, it creates a patched version of your current driver at the desktop. you can install it with Kext Helper to verify it's working. *
- "Disable Trim" button does nothing.
- The icons for Patch Enabled/Trim enabled are static, ignore them for now
- Disk name and info for SMART is taken from 1st hard drive, will implement so you can choose between drives

I enabled TRIM on my SSD and it was a few weeks ago when I installed it and did a fresh install of lion. When I go into the disk utility the "Erase free space" option is grayed out. Should I wipe the drive and reinstall everything again with trim enabled or think it'll be ok?
You are fine. Lion will not let you erase free space on the drive you booted from.
Ok, good. I did try booting into recovery from my Lion thumb drive and ran the disk utility but it still wouldn't let me delete the free space.
Why are you trying to erase free space? If you just want to TRIM free space, install the TRIM hack then boot to single user mode and type "fsck -ffy" (without the quotes). This will TRIM all free space on the drive in Lion.
