But GM, Ford and especially Stellantis are fundamentally broken. Their cars are not as good as BMW or Toyota. They just make big trucks and when gas prices increase, their sales crash because they have no fuel efficient products.
I was astounded to learn, a few weeks ago, that Ford no longer sells sedans in the US.

GM actually makes some really good EVs. One of them is the Honda Prologue in that it uses GM's battery and propulsion platform. The Lyriq is another hit. Fit and finish is far superior to Tesla and they don't have quirks like Tesla's cheapo screen-centric ergonomics fail. The problem these guys face in EV space is battling the Tesla meme like Android battled the iPhone early on before gaining wider acceptance. Now that Musk has tanked Tesla I expect the US makers to gain EV market share.

Yeah. Why can’t GM and Ford make good cars that people want to buy?
And none of these three have built a decent EV. They had a decade to dismantle teslas and build something better, but they didn’t.

These companies have engineers who disassemble the competition’s cars. They know exactly how they’re designed and built. AND, they get their own cars back for warranty repairs, so they know exactly what fails and how to correct the failures.

Ford’s ok, I’m planning to buy a MachE later this year, tariff’s permitting, it’s a solid car and a great EV... For that matter as far as EV trucks go the F150 is still the best option for a full sized truck. And on hybrids the Maverick is selling so well they’re having a hard time keeping them in stock.

I do wish Ford still made small cars for the US market though, my wife loves her fiesta, but cant replace it with a new one

GM has actually been doing pretty well for the past year or so now after really doing poorly in 2023, and the bolt is a solid EV (even if I personally wont consider a new one because of carplay).

I’ll give you stellantis to some extent though

Doubt Apple has much bargaining power when there's literally only two players: Foxconn and Luxshare. It's not as if there's other EMS companies who have the capacity to assemble a couple hundred thousand phones per day.
Do you really believe that if sales of iPhone doesn’t meet expectations, Foxconn and Luxshare still makes the agreed amount and Apple is now taxed with selling them? That’s not how big business works. Didn’t you see all the reports by Ming Chi Kuo every year about how Apple has cut back supplier orders for this and that?

The whole point of using sub suppliers instead of building their own factory is to be agile to these sort of things. Just because there are only two suppliers, doesn’t mean that other companies wouldn’t like to compete for the contract. AirPods for instance are made by Goertek.

Yes, it literally works like that. Suppliers for a speaker part or flex cable are not EMS companies. There are many suppliers but very few EMS companies.

EMS work involves building and designing the iPhone. You seem to think there are many other EMS companies that can offer the same capacity and quality as Foxconn and Luxshare. There really aren't. That's the reason why Wistron factories got bought out by Luxshare. They weren't able to meet the performance standards of Apple and always ended up being assigned assembling n-1 models for Apple.

Luxshare was a lowly part supplier before growing to become an EMS.

Based on your logic, Apple wouldn't have been penalized by Samsung for nearly $1B. They could fall back to LGD and BOE for OLED.

It's a lot simpler to make AirPods than iPhone.

The prologue is way too expensive for what it is. I’m not impressed with Gms ev offerings. And the newer teslas have fine fit and finish even if one doesn’t like their overall successful strategy in terms of minimalist interior.

Musk will or is going back to focusing on Tesla and hopefully do the DOGE job a little more subtly. The 2026 model Y is going to be a hit and I still expect the us ev space to be scraping for crumbs.

Tesla unlike Apple though has been smart in building a US supply chain.
