While those figures are worth knowing, one really does have to also take into account the costs to build the factories in the US from scratch, not to mention the entire supply chain that doesn't exist here either, in order to avoid Trump's tariffs on the parts and raw materials that would still have to come from China, and elsewhere outside the US, for many years to come.

Yup. Increasing manufacturing in the US and just about everywhere else is best done by the government helping businesses achieve that. It’s not done by penalizing them and giving them no help.
I wonder if it would have been better for the government to help businesses keep their manufacturing in the US before they started offshoring 40 years ago. You know... if the government offered incentives for businesses to stay.
Because trying to get it back now after all this time... while the rest of the world got really good at manufacturing... it just seems like an impossible task.

That's the official merchandise. A lot of copies are made in China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, etc. As reported in The Times April 4 2025: "More than 90% of the bestselling presidential campaign merchandise listed on Amazon has a seller’s address in China." So the vast majority of MAGA merchandise, especially the cheap, mass-distributed, or unofficial items, are made outside the US, mainly in China.
Though I suppose Trump has no control over that. Or does he?

See, this is actually in line with my personal conspiracy theory. Media and big tech essentially colluded behind the scenes because every awful thing Don does gets endless clicks and views and likes from people around the globe. 4 years of content for a paltry pre-election investment? A media mogul would be foolish not to at least try.
This is why TV media pushed Joe's decline so hard. This is why TikTok and Meta promoted right wing and non-participatory content. To secure clicks, likes, and ad revenue. Potential tax cuts and deregulation were just icing on the cake.
So, not a single thing Trump has done for average Americans? That tracks.

Well, it's indoor work, you're probably seated. It pays, maybe not a lot, but pays. Could be a fall back job that's probably low retention, so they might be hiring constantly. Could be a place for fresh out of high school kids to get started. Does it sound like fun? No, but most jobs aren't usually rainbows and unicorns. I think I'd rather have the jobs here.
The difference being that the Biden Administration (collectively) did a remarkable job given the adversity it faced. With Biden having a strong team around him, their real mission was to keep the international order functioning and to keep the status quo…kind of a “do no harm.” Trump’s been trying to divide American’s from day 1, and every policy is meant to hurt and target people, both in the US and abroad.
Let’s remember that in Trump 1, he only had one major challenge either domestically or foreign (Covid), and every other nation faced it at the same time. It was a mixed bag, as it helped expedite new drugs utilizing somewhat new tech that helped save millions, but he also gave voices to people that societies have rightly shunned for thousands of years. So despite having very few challenges, he manages to botch things nearly every day and divide Americans, while raising taxes on 75% of Americans. This time around Trump 2 is entering in a chaotic world with lots going on, and he’s hell bent on destroying the world order, the status quo, and empowering his family. He’s always been a laughing stock in elite social circles and business, and he’s hell-bent on revenge.
Given that high school juniors are making $18/hr hostessing or flipping burgers, I can’t imagine they’ll switch to screwing in micro-components.
No one likes to flip hamburgers and listen to rude customers complain...yet they do.
They can flirt with each other while doing so.
But seriously. If a high school junior learning their first skills is getting $18/hr, what’s a post-high school technical worker going to get? $25-40? There’s no way an iPhone can be affordable at that. If they produce it in the US, it’ll be nearly fully automated.
OH give me a break. Biden was easily the most divisive President we've ever had. Calling Trump supporters terrorists and anyone who didn't align with democrats a threat to democracy.
And Trump didn't raise taxes his first term. It's actually the opposite as he lowered them for both people and corporations through the tax cuts and jobs act of 2017.
If Biden was so competent then why did the majority of Americans want him out of office? Answer, he wasn't. He allowed our border to collapse, inflation to reach record levels, and the over all cost of living to skyrocket, all the while telling everyone that the economy was great and the border was secure.
Trump Empowering his family? Biden's son Hunter made millions from China and Ukraine all while Joe denied it ever occurred. His son is a certified scum bag who we were told by the White House that we should feel sorry for. This is a guy who began dating his brothers widow before he was even divorced and then got her hooked on crack.

These EMS factories are in the very outskirts where workers can't really go home on weekends. That's why employees are housed in these mini cities. Smartphones aren't permitted inside the production area. Food is supplied by the EMS company. You eat what is offered. You can't just go out and buy what you want. Overtime is essential if you want a healthy wage. American high school graduates wouldn't cut it.
From a practical point of view, many workers are smaller Asian women because their hands small and nimble. This means efficiency. Realistically, the majority of Americans wouldn't be able to do it simply because of physique and BMI.
This isn't some fast food job where you can chat, check TikTok when things are slow, and go for a smoke break every hour. Your burger looks like crap and the customer wolfs it down.
MAGA refuses to believe that tariffs are a tax but every economist and finance person knows they are. 75% of Americans saw a Trump 1 tax cut of under $500, but tariff increase per household of over $1k annually. That’s a net increase
