Yes, because people are often wearing 2 watches at a time for comparison and they rub each other. Just look at the many pics on this forum of multiple watches touching each other.


then you cannot wear any shirt or jacket with metal buttons/zippers either if it gets scratched so easily...
 
watch nerds refer to it as wabi. Many watch owners embrace it as an opportunity for their watches to tell stories rather than be display pieces. Personally, I don't care if my watch gets some scratches from use. It's not a lifetime investment like a traditional watch can be.
 
I can't say my ordered Sport watch is cheap but its not so expensive that I'm worried enough to add a case. (I think, ha) I do like the idea in general since it would satisfy my OCD and make the watch more similar to my phone with a clear case but I'm still not going to do it. (I think, ha)
