Glad I didn't buy any of those chip identifier apps back in the #ChipGate days...

TSMC is superior to Samsung

duh! TSMC created the outsourced fab manufacturing business in the 80's and is almost 20 years ahead of Samsung with much larger customer base. The fact that the relatively new entrant Samsung is competing with TSMC neck and neck on the cutting edge nodes in in itself quite remarkable.

Seems like Chipgate is overblown...

So there are definitely circumstances under which the TSMC phone will last longer than the Samsung phone, but it's not a universal problem. A Samsung chip that's mostly idling or even one under modest CPU and GPU load, though, is going to behave in just about the same way as a TSMC chip. And the kinds of CPU-intensive work that the Samsung chip seems to struggle with just aren't that common on smartphones. Most of the time, iPhone 6S battery life should be similar no matter which chip your phone is using.

Samsung vs Qualcomm for the S7 edge seems to have a higher discrepancy.

I have zero allegiance for either horse here, so keep hating away at Samsung if you may. Just another angry poster online needing to be educated with logic and facts over blind, emotional biases.

Blame your chef (Samsung) that Apple's recipe (custom SoC design) was slightly overcooked and spoils faster. Maybe Apple should go make it themselves. But if they stopped outsourcing for cheap Asian labor would ruin their "profit margins."
