Could this be Apple moving to the three year cycle:
1st Year - Design change
2nd Year - S model
3rd Year - Pro Model
Meaning the next iPhone 2017 can be the complete design change which has been rumoured

Complains for years that Apple needs a larger screen. Apple makes larger screens. Macrumor complains about too many choices.
Sorry, only those vain enough to spend $1,000 on an iPhone get a Pro. FWIW, you're looking at a legitimate image. The Pro has Dual Lenses and 4g of RAM, and the Smart Connector. Plus some unique software in iOS 10 for it.
7 and 7+ will be a single lens (a VERY nice one) and new sensor. 2g RAM. 32g, 128g, 256g.
Just another money grab by a company that has become too large to function as a cohesive unit.
The "Pro" is just the features the normal upgrade would have been. But Apple needs to maintain their big profits, so expect the iPad manure over again. $50 more the the storage tier, $100 extra for the Pro model, the "base" model will get minor stuff at same price. The pro will get the nice stuff, but in reality they want to sell the same easy to produce old base model with upgraded storage to the masses.

I'd trade my 6s Plus for a Nexus 6p is a heartbeat.
Like many others on here, I will be skipping this update. Will miss this craziness (pre-ordering, tracking shipments, seeing who got their's and who hasn't?) but no need to upgrade for this one. Will wait for the iPhone 8 and I guess my bill from ATT will go down $15 now as I will be out of contract finally.
Also, have we forgotten the nonsense with the iPad Pro? Of course they would may a slightly better, yet still behind iPhone Pro.
I can't wait until release day so we can complain about the actual product, rather than complain about a rumour. 2 more months.
Those awful camera bumps, with the lens looking like it's exploding out of the back of the phone, make me love my elegantly resolved iPhone SE even more. Hideous.

Yeah, this design has got a real Gil Amelio vibe.
Gonna be difficult to stay with Apple if they're actually gonna be trying to pull stuff like this.

With Intel's elimination of those tic-toc cycles, 2016 is rumored to bring us the iPhone7, while a radically new iPhone8 is (again rumored) to be introduced for 2017, the tenth anniversary of the iPhone's introduction in 2007. We're talking wrap-around glass and OLED edge-to-edge display with TouchId possibly integrated under the screen.
I believe Apple has very high hopes for that all-new design (with demand on par with, or exceeding that of the much anticipated increased screen sizes of the 6 and 6+), while the lack of 's' versions also nicely dovetails with iPhone8 being the special anniversary issue for 2017. Eight is after all a very lucky number for the Chinese market which is poised to become Apple's largest market sometime in the not too distant future, and demand there for the above rumored iPhone8 could be off the charts as well.
Probably a good idea. What with a laggy, bloat ware ridden OS, and malware all over the place and ugly designs, it's so much better on the android side... just loads...
Phil and team is going to get hit after the keynote if they are using these designs. Most won't care about internals, they want a new phone design. IMO they got too comfortable using the same phone design for three years running
The best part about this next version phone will be the comments spilling out on MR the day its revealed.
