Seriously.. who posts child pornography on the internet? You might as well pass airport security holding a ticking bomb in your hand.

The problem as I see it is the way the app delivers auto-selected content. I deleted it weeks ago because it kept delivering content I did not want, did not sign up for, and could not get rid of. Content "In Your Orbit" and "While You Were Away" consistently delivered multiple images to my app that had NOTHING whatsoever to do with my interests, and it would do so disturbingly often, such as after every three or four blogs posts I follow there'd be three "In Your Orbit" crap images. I tried filtering them out, but that generally only works with images already tagged. If was extremely irritating. In a browser you can still get "In Your Orbit" but generally only a couple every once in a while, with some being dismissible.

If i have to sacrifice my privacy so that others can feel safe from the likes of terrorists and pedophiles then i am more than welcome to do so. In my opinion it is those who have something to hide that will shout the loudest regarding government intrusion into privacy.

So many thoughts about this sentiment. I'm not even mad, just.... disappointed that someone would even feel this way.

In that scenario, it would be up to Apple to decide if they want to pull them from the App Store for that.

It’s not censorship at all. Open Safari and hit Tumblr. It’s still there.

The App Store publicizes content that can be downloaded to your iPhone. They are in no way required to publicisize all content that is submitted to them. There are specific guidelines outlined for acceptance into the App Store. Heck, Apple could even delete the App Store entirely and still would not be hindering you from finding web content.

Browsers on the other hand kind of have an obligation to be completely unbiased for the reason you’re bringing up. It is policed by higher entities than Apple. This article has little to nothing to do about that process so please don’t conflate the two.

Eh, this is half-true. Apple polices Apps that have an entire focus on porn. They don’t remove apps for simply having porn on them.

The difference is typically how it’s handled. Does the App offer other content? Does the user have to accept that they’re over the age of 18 to engage? Are there settings to hide/filter this content from the app?

Tumblr has always followed Apple’s rules on this and therefore has stayed on the App Store. Them being pulled from the App Store has literally nothing to do with regular porn. They were solely pulled because of illegal content not being dealt with properly. You’re entirely off-base on this and unless Reddit screws up with child porn, there’s no way it’s being pulled.

Believe me, Apple knows there is porn on Reddit and Tumblr. They’re not idiots.

Few bad posters and members ruined it for all. Perhaps when there is so much porn on there it becomes hard for Tumblr to control or keep track over. I really doubt that Tumblr would purposely approve of allowing members and posters to upload child pornography onto their app site. I reckon they could make membership screening a little more difficult to get rid of those uploading content related to Child pornography and reporting those that upload such material to local authorities

Update: Tumblr to ban all adult contents from December 17

I love how instead of actively putting in effort to make it a better place for everyone, they just said GET RID OF IT ALL. Lmao.

Good to see they're tackling the big issues.
