I have received a Bookarc support as a gift, and now I use my BMP 17" almost all the time in clamshell mode. To turn it on without having to remove it form the stand and press the button, I have found a simple way: just program it to turn on every day at 6:00am (long before the hour in which I wake up) and unplug it from power when I turn it off at night.
If the MacBook is closed and unpluged from power it DOESN'T turn on at 6, but when I attach the Magsafe the "gong" sounds and it does.
Hope this helps to somebody...

Thanks for this work around!!!
Now I don't have to open my MacBook Pro when I connect to my Henge Docking station.

Does it hurt the MBP to be asleep but the MagSafe always plugged in via the Cinema Display?

if you're asking about battery wear it should be fine. Just use it on battery once a month or so. These don't constantly charge.

This is a good idea, I was thinking of getting a HengeDock or BookArc...I may sound ignorant but how do you "program the Mac to turn on a specified time"?
