I turned my heat on for the first time the Fall last evening. The house T 56. Have the heating T set at 60. My heating contractor will be here tomorrow afternoon to perform the Fall checkup on my furnace.

... BV, I won't add to the can of worms you opened up. Hope your install goes well. I never believe contractors -- when the tell me it's gonna take 3 days I'm bracing for a week.

And to think I thought you were being a pessimist...

*sigh*

First, there was the mysterious gas leak that no-one could smell except me that took 4 sceptical inspections to discover and the eventual rewelding of the connections and the replacement of the now-damaged meter.

Then the heating system was running fine until the electrician came to install the thermostats and timer -- now I can't have hot water without having heat and the thermostat doesn't work at all.

The builder who was supposed to have boxed in some of the pipework and bricked up the old chimney turned up late, preventing me from going to the office and dealing with some extremely urgent work, and then he only stayed a couple of hours leaving me a note saying that he'd be back 5 days later.

And then there's the small matter of the leaking radiator in the kitchen...

Not to mention the fine but gritty dust everywhere from destroying some of the brickwork in the kitchen to install outside vents, not to mention the lack of privacy as various strange and unwashed men traipse through your bedroom, not to mention the dismantling of my desk and Mac setup preventing me from doing any work at home.

The whole thing has been pretty traumatic as I'm still recovering from surgery -- have to take Monday off work to accomodate the reinspection of work so far and repairs to work that should have been completed.

*stressed as hell*

I had to turn my heat on today when it SNOWED today in Massachusetts    and had hot chocolate... yummy
