i went from a 3gs to a droid on verizon. got several more android phones on verizon and skipped the iphone 4. the fact that i don't need a computer to have an iphone is what brought me back. i need my phone to be separate from my computer.

You don't like lugging your computer around with you? And they complain the screen is to big on the galaxy S2 lol.

Maybe not Samsung Android phone announcements, but the Nokia/Windows "Lumia" made front page news.

I don't see why people shouldn't talk about iPhone in the context of its competition. Aren't favorable comparisons to other products part of what makes something great? I honestly don't see why discussions about the iPhone and its competitors should be policed/discouraged.

If you don't like the way Arn & Co. do things, go start your own rumor site.

There is a compromise – one that has been raised repeatedly and one which MR users reacted positively compared to the status quo in a poll – namely, create a forum on 'Alternatives to the iPhone'. For the life of me I can't understand why this hasn't been done, for it would remove immediately any debate about whether posting information about non-Apple phones is appropriate.

I realize this is not my site, but if you don't ask you don't get.

I was on the same boat for you about a year ago, and went to a droid. I was happy with being able to customize stuff, and thought it was the coolest phone I ever owned. Then, I quickly realized why Apple doesn't allow you to customize the way Droid does. Issues, Issues, Issues. Non stop, the phone would freeze, pictures would auto delete, phone calls wouldn't come through. I had the droid replaced 3 times, and each was the same. Just like a PC, stuff begins to build up in the file management system and screws everything up. With that said, I sold the droid, got an iPhone again, and will never complain again. Android software could be decent, but nothing compares to iPhones. Plain and simple!

well...

Turns out I haven't needed to use any of the 4 extra batteries I received.
...the battery does get me through the day without any chargin.

I personally like to avoid my battery getting below 70%...just bothers me...so I make sure I have the ability to charge it where ever I'm at. I have the extra batteries shoud I need them but I don't foresee the need. I was premature in buying them....but they were inexpensive.

The extra batteries came with their own wall charger so my phone would not be tethered while batteries charge. :)

Changing the battery is really quick and easy should I need to do so, the back pops off effortlessly and the battery goes in and out easily.

It would be nice if Apple allowed a little more flexibility for us. I understand why they do what they do (from a business perspective) but as a consumer I appreciate that I can change my battery and install an SD card for more storage.

There is also an extended capacity battery available that adds bulk and comes with a new back to the phone...I just didn't want to add thickness to it.

This is something I really don't get, and I'm a bit of a battery nerd. I charge my iPhone every night and it lasts me the day.

In order to have multiple charged batteries you have to actually charge them. Wouldn't that involve swapping the battery every time? And then you're physically tethered to a power outlet so much of the time.

5 batteries sounds great in theory but I think it would drive me nuts.

takes getting used to

I still much prefer Siri at this point. I would imagine that since Siri has raised the game...google will likely follow suit and further improve it's voice recognition abilities. (thank God for competition)

Vlingo works quite well, I'm still trying to get used to Jeannie.

Looks like it works faster than Siri and is loaded with more information

damn that is one ugly phone.

Yes because this brick is a work of art!

I get a kick out of iPhone users bashing other phones for looking cheap and plastic when they themselves wrap as much plastic, silicone, and TPU around their phones to prevent their prized pieces from shattering like a windshield hit with a spark plug from a 3ft fall off a desk.

Now, more and more of us are spending a lot more time on my mobile devices than on PC. The 3.5 inch screen isn't good enough for eBooks, spreadsheets viewing, PowerPoint slides viewing, web surfing, gaming, and media consumptions. Most of us would not want to carry along an iPhone plus an iPad. We just want something in between the two. Something very pocketable but with generous screen size, and one handed operation is not at all important.

...

To me, everything about iPhone is perfect, except it's way way too small.

The screen size is exactly why I got an iphone vs the other premium android phones. 4 in screens are too big to fit in an average pocket, most built in cell phone pockets in your bag and too hard to hold. I am sick of those huge android phones that might as well be pocket tvs.

4" screens really aren't that bad. i have small hands and a 4" screen is easy to use. beyond that is way to big. 4.3" is becoming the new standard. and we have phones with 4.65" screens...THATS A TABLET!!

I do not plan on ever going to something other than an iPhone at least not in the near future as nothing IMO compares.

Coming from a Windows Mobile 6.5 Motorola Q9M and B4 that a Palm Treo 650, I can not image using anything else as I have been on an iPhone since the 3G in 2008.

Does everyone who complains a 4.3in android is too large to fit in your pocket wear those godforsaken skinny jeans? We're taking 11mm in length and 7mm in width. It really isn't that much larger, less so if you put any type of case or bumper on the iphone.

like i always say, have fun with your plastic device
Apple has milked a plastic iPhone for over three years. It called an iPhone 3G/3Gs. Then they went with a slippery and fingerprint magnet glass with no bezel which made it less comfortable to hold. Best materials and most practical come from HTC or Motorola. The latter used to be known for making rugged phones and the RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition is the best looking phone I have ever seen.

So, I've been a huge fan of the iPhone since I left Verizon to buy the 3GS on launch day.
I read macrumors daily...even still.

I really felt let down with the iPhone 4s after all the iPhone 5 hype got my hopes up for a larger screen.

I tried to talk myself in to staying with the iPhone and getting the 4s based on the Siri cool factor but that was the only thing that was tempting me.

Ultimately I decided to give android a look and bought a Samsung Galaxy S 2. I am very much pleasantly surprised with the device. It's best feature....the screen. The Super Amoled + just has incredible contrast and colors. Despite it's lower resolution the screen still comes off as superior to the iPhone 4 imo.

I'm also really enjoying all the customization I can do without having to 'jailbreak'.

It's only been about 2 weeks since I've purchased it but I'm already wondering if Apple can win me back with the next iPhone...I do hope that they bring something serious to the table.

Two things that the iPhone does better than the SGS2: The iPhone chargers faster and holds it charger longer. But, I got 4 extra batteries for $33 bucks and also got chargers all over the place...turns out that I didn't really need all that.

SGS2...love that when I plug it in to my PC that it opens up like an external HD and I can just drag and drop music and pictures in to it and it just works.

Also, if I get lonely for the iPhone I can use the EspierLauncher and it looks and functions ALOT like an iPhone. :)

I just thought I would share this experience with those of you who may be feeling as I did. Not happy with the 4s....wanting something more...but scared to switch.

I'm loving the SGS2....but I'll be watching for Apple's next iPhone.
All that matters is YOU are happy. Don't let the fanboys get in the way of your decision.

While the Galaxy S II is nice, the awful battery life and cheap overall feel of the device led me to return it, and helped me realize that the iPhone is still the best overall device for me.

Not enough people realize that the "best" device is subjective to the user; that's why the idiotic ranting/raving/bashing ends up in so many threads. Not because one device is actually better than the others.

uh huh.

Anyway, to the OP. have fun with your plastic device.
