non issue
I've never had any other android based phone to compare against the SGS2 but what I can say is that I haven't noticed any LAG with the UI...certainly no more so than my jailbroken iPhones. No complaints from me on that front.
Yes, the phone seems plasticy...as did my 3GS. The iPhone 4 is uncomfortable to hold thanks to it's sharper angled edges. I prefer the feel of the 3GS in my hand.
The graphics capabilities of the iPhone 4s outshine the SGS2 from what I understand...but as I do all of my high end gaming on a 6core processor OCd to 3.8ghz each...I don't find myself ever gaming on a tiny phone.
I've watched youtube videos showing the SGS2 vs the iPhone4s and they were neck n neck in all ways...with the SGS2 actually functioning a bit faster in nearly every category. (but they were so close that it makes me no difference)
I just can't get over how wonderful the deep blacks are on this SGS2 screen and the colors are amazingly saturated. It just is pleasant to look at...and with the 720p HD screen of the android phones that are coming shortly (such as the Nexus) they will be even more beautiful to stare at.
I mentioned I have 4 extra batteries...it's because my order was accidently doubled and was told to keep them. I've not needed to use any of them. The battery does drain faster than the iPhone 4 but it gets me through a day.
But I'm a charge freak anyhow...I charge any chance I get.
My brother-in-law just got a SGS2 for work (I had turned him from a BB user to an iPhone fan) but now...he is feeling the same way about the SGS2 that I do. We are both surprised at how much we like this phone that leaving the current set of iPhones behind is was an extremely easy decision in hind-sight.
I am by no means bashing the iPhone...I'm still a fan of all it can do. I am not missing anything on my android phone that my iPhone could do...including the apps. I'm just enjoying what the SGS2 gives me that no iPhone ever has....a bigger screen.
I'm also thankful that I don't have to jailbreak the phone every single time a new os version comes out...the cat n mouse game is over. I can tweak this phone til my heart is content without the need to root it.
Android is extremely flexible/customizable and it continues to improve.
I look forward to seeing how the iPhone 5 will compare to what ever answer Android has for it in the near future.
I'm glad both exist and that my choices and features/fuctions are better for it.
Most durable iPhone that Apple ever made was still the first generation from 2007. And it surprisingly has good battery compared to the iPhone 3's and most current Androids because it lacked a 3G chip. When you got the first iPhone 3G, it never had a switch to turn off 3G/Edge unless you jailbroke it using SBSettings. That means it would still be searching for a 3G in the background whether you were close to one or not. Got an original iPhone four weeks ago with a new battery. Played music for 10+ hours on shuffle with airplane mode on. The battery was still more than half (maybe 70%). If this was done on my previous BlackBerry, webOS, or Android phone, it would less than than 25%-30% by that point.
Only thing that really sucks with the iPhone 2G is lack of RAM and how much it can lag. Hardware from half a decade ago. Plants vs Zombies on 3.1.3 is an eye sore with the frame rate and slow downs. Phones and especially iPhone got really good by 2009. The 3GS can still play most games really well unless we are talking about Infinity Blade here. Only thing I hate with most Androids is battery life and occasional weird glitch or crash. I can turn off animations and live wallpaper and it still won't make a difference. But so far, I've never had to take out the battery when it freezes compared to my previous BlackBerry or Pixi Plus.
Matias Duarte said it best when he was comparing Siri to Android. If iOS is like Star Wars, Android is like Star Trek.
People forget how difficult it was to jailbreak an iPhone back in 2007. It wasn't like that 3-4 step process we have now. That was GEEK stuff that something Android users are labeled as. If you actually had an imagination, creativity, like choices in form factors, and can THINK FOR YOURSELF, Android isn't a bad platform to tinker with. Like getting into a marriage and knowing how to avoid any pitfalls.
I am a fan of iPhone and stated the 4th gen is my fav phone ever. But talking about their problems or praising it all day would bore me to tears without competition. I am glad Android existed. Apple hasn't excited the cell phone world with anything truly revolutionary in 3-4 years since the first iPhone or when the App Store opened in 2008.
