Hi all

Kindof as the title says.

Since updating to the latest TVOS, the 'most recent' or left-most item in my up next is a real mess with the titles of the old items that were there before.

Hope that makes sense.

Ive tried quitting the TV app and that fixes the issue until something 'new' appears in position 1 and then its text description is overlayed on top of what was last there.

This came as part of the horrible update that moved the up next list down below the intrusive ads.

Worth noting during this issue I have upgraded to a new 2022 AppleTV 4k - and the problem has followed me from one box to the next.

Anyone else seen this?

Everyone has seen this, it’ll more than likely be resolved in the next update.
Well at least the text issue will be anyway.

Yeah everyone who’s on tvOS 16.2, there’s plenty of talk about it on Reddit and some discussion at AVForums.

You do of course have an alternative and just use Up Next via the main Homescreen and that way you don’t even have to open the TV app and see it.

Thats the exact same issue.

Apple's QA testing seems a bit suspect of late doesnt it.......

This is hardly a 'hidden' bug! Im very surprised they released it like this.

For this very reason I stick to the top shelf up next as you demonstrated in your second pic - removes the frustration of the garbled text.

Absolutely gobsmacked to find today that after updating to TVos 16.3.... it's NOT fixed??

I mean, if its happening to all of us how on earth haven't Apple noticed it and fixed it?

This is hardly an obscure hard to find bug.

Haven’t noticed any continuation of the issue myself so far.
nor did I for a few days.

Genuinely thought that 16.3.1 had finally fixed it - having been introduced in 16.2, failed to be fixed in 16.3...

but yesterday after working OK for a few days the text corruption is back. Definitely not fixed.

Still have the same issue. What a mess.
really?

Even 16.3.2 now?

I updated yesterday and that normally 'clears the text' but it usually soon appears again as my up next list starts to move....

Havent watched anything since 16.3.2.... very disappointed if the bug is STILL there.

The usual short term fix is to force close the TV app and re-open - but that doesnt last long.

I had to force quit and reopen the app about 2 hours after updating. It didn't come back after that but I only watched the same show and the list didn't really move, so we'll see what happens tonight.

same here

Every update I remain hopeful they have fixed this - I mean, if we are ALL experiencing the same thing how on earth have they not known about it, and allowed it to perpetuate through several subsequent releases?
It seems an obvious easily repeatable error, and an equally simple fix surely.

It only happens when 'the list moves' and mine hasnt. Although ive thought its been fixed a few times but its only when your up next juggles around that the problem is apparent.

So annoying this all came about as a result of the universally hated new content advertising they pushed in above the up next list which has caused all these formatting issues.

NO

for goodness sake apple.

just switched on the Apple TV and I haven’t even watched anything yet. However the episodes in my Up Next list haven’t even moved but the first one is already corrupted.

What an absolute mess. I am so surprised that Apple is capable of this.

And have you reported this to Apple via their feedback form?

yes. just after it first happened.

Id encourage others to do so too using the link you helpfully provided.

Im curious though... outside of these forums I haven't seen it mentioned at all. Nobody on Youtube - which is surprising as most yootoobers are desperate for content so something like this is good for a video or two surely...
Macrumors themselves are usually happy to post a story highlighting software issues... but nothing.

So is it as widespread as I assume.... or is it just a few of us that see this?

I'd submitted feedback already as well. Apple does not seem to care about this bug.

I really enjoyed the previous Apple TV app with up next, etc. This new version is a complete mess.

It is a mess for sure.

Ive said this before but I have to assume this is happening to EVERYONE not just a handful of us? No idea but I dont see how it could be unless its a specific resolution or Hz setting combination thats making it happen?

I'll accept that it slipped through the net of 16.2 along with that dreadful redesign of the TV app - but to not fix it in the next few releases seems bizarre.

To be honest since 16.2 ive got into the habit of not going into the TV app but instead operating my up next list from the top shelf - OK theres no function there beyond starting the next episode but its bigger, clearer, with no corrupted text AND you dont get served the 'Ads' in the TV app (own goal there, Apple).

Dont get me wrong I love my AppleTV and use it for all my TV watching - but im finding this bug irritating.

I was moaned at by the Wife earlier as had been jumping in and out of different things, adding them in, taking them out again and adding more for 15 to 20 minutes Lol.
No issues here at all, I’ve even scrolled right along the Up Next row as previously I’d noticed the offending title with the messed up text would just move along a few spaces after other titles appeared at the front.
Up Next text has been fine since tvOS 16.3.1 and continues to be so on 16.3.2.

Interesting...

but annoying :) - I hoped it was widespread but perhaps it isnt.

All we can do is keep reporting to Apple I guess.

Hahaha spoke too soon 🤣

I didnt want to say...

Because it would have been nice for it to work - but I was slightly sceptical and sure enough... it broke again :)

I noticed today that on one occasion entering the TV app, the screen went momentarily blank then refreshed and the ghosting was gone. Almost like a wipe clean - the same effect as force quitting the TV app and re-opening it.

This happened spontaneously for no reason - but did the job. Of course the text will corrupt again soon enough but the behaviour and lack of a fix is very odd.

I am beginning to wonder just how widespread this issue is....?

On the one hand plenty seem to be experiencing it...
... but on the other ive never seen it mentioned outside of this forum. Not even a Macrumors story....

.. and Apple themselves have had about 3 updates since it appeared when you'd have thought this was very obvious to notice, replicate, and fix.... but to leave the interface looking so sloppy and unprofessional is a surprise.

Could it be very specific to just a few of us and is this region related, TV format related, HDR related.... etc etc?

I’d guess for many they’re just not bothered by it and just enjoy their films or shows instead.
If I’m being honest I’m a little like that, granted it should be fixed by now but does it actually spoil my enjoyment of what I use the Apple TV for? No not in the slightest.
