This SUCKS. Cable has done it forever and now it's happening more on network TV and they usually accompany the adds with some huge flash, as if you didn't already know there was a big obtrusive program bumper at the bottom of your screen.

I hate to throw a little spam in here, but I suspect you'll like the ReCaptcha post I just added. Check it out and get informed.

I'm on the verge of canning CATV myself - actually, would have a while ago - however roommates protested this. One of the last great channels (to me) IFC - stopped their off-the-radar content, then started with ads. Science channel now is all "reality shows" and science fiction shows. Looked at the size of my cable bill, how often I actually watch TV, and how much advertising has been slathered into programming I'm shelling out $$$ for.

Even iTunes is on my list - downloaded an episode of a show, and the last 4 minutes of it are advertisements for other shows. Yes, charge me for a show, and clog my HD up with ads I didn't ask for.... for a show, I just paid you to get.

Banner ads Make it stop!

This is the communication I sent to FOX 31 network, and have not received a reply. To whom it may concern,

City: Carr
Fox station: 31
Zip: 80612
Satellite: Dish

There is a new trend for the networks, and that is to super impose 5 / 10 second banners at the bottom of the screen when you are trying to watch a program that insidiously blot out a third of the picture.

Not only is this very ineffective, but it serves to make the viewing public Hopping Mad! We as a viewing public pay a ludicrous fee every month to the Satellite providers to try and watch a few channels out of hundreds of channels that are nothing more than junk, only to have a banner pop up so you have to shift your eyes away from it and still try to see the program you are watching. Its total insanity and the moron whom thought this new aggravation up should be hung.

The worst offenders are TBS, Comedy central, A&E, etc. to name a few. In fact it is darn near all networks including Fox.

Is there anyway to get a message to the idiots that deem this practice necessary, to inform them that us hundreds of thousand strong, not only object to this, but will not even watch what they are trying to super impose on the screen during standard programing.

You have a much anticipated programing coming up on Fox called the Cosmos. This will be the flagship of your network. Should there be the stupid 5 sec pop up super imposed banners on this, you might as well flush this one down the toilet with the rest of the programing, that feels it is necessary to inflect this hideous practice on the millions that loath this.

J.M.

So to whom ever reads this, I implore anyone with the power and knowledge, to please organize the hundreds of thousand people whom hate what the networks are doing and form a group to abolish this practice. I would be most happy to join this movement!

I bet there is not a network around that would have the guts to do a survey and see how viewers felt about this kind of advertising. I am almost positive they could not handle the overwhelming response.

But as long as people continue to "Tune In", networks will continue to do it and probably get more arrogant about it. Money rules their world.

Over 3 years clear of commercial TV.

Has television viewing habits dramatically changed? Ours sure has.

At one point we had seven televisions in our homes and it seemed there was always one turned on. Now I think the last time our television was on was last summer and that was to track some severe weather moving through the area. I'd be very surprised if our tv has been used for more than a couple hours in the last five + years.
