A bug on tvOS 16.1 is causing models of the latest Apple TV with 128GB of storage to virtually run out of storage once a user has used 64GB of storage.

The bug, first highlighted in FlatpanelsHD's review of the new Apple TV and more recently by Macworld, causes new models of the Apple TV with 128GB of storage to think they only have 64GB of storage when in reality they have double the storage. Once the Apple TV surpasses 64GB of used storage, the user is presented with the following message when trying to download a new app: "The app can't be installed because there isn't enough space. Delete one or more apps or manage your storage in Settings."

According to FlatpanelsHD, the bug is not fixed in the latest beta of tvOS 16.2. In the meantime, users impacted by the bug using an Apple TV with 128GB of storage can try queueing enough downloads together until their Apple TV passes the artificial 64GB limit.

Did they get rid of their [presumably] outsourced QA teams or something? so many bugs lately or MR is writing more articles about it than in the past

A bit of both I think. Its an obsessive–compulsive disorder, wanting to push out software updates more often and pushing more news articles every day even when nothing is happening.

My guess is it's the latter - bug reports like this clearly drive traffic, because they imply not all is perfect in the kingdom of Apple.

Of course, it never was perfect, but stories like this are like grease to all sorts of opinions and theories.

Neither I think. There has always been weird bugs like these that come up from time to time. Once they are fixed people will forget about the ones that came before and assume new bugs are increasing all of a sudden. Apple had more than its share of bugs even in the supposed golden era of their QA in the Snow Leopard era.

tvOs is an afterthought for Apple. They haven’t even gotten Siri working globally yet. Apple just is not interested in ATV. Actually, no one seems to be interested in making a solid streaming box for the regular tv. ATV has a lot of potential but they just keep it on life support for the most part.

I dont understand why tvOS is on 16.1 whereas IOS is on 16.1.1

All I want in Apple TV is ATMOS and DTS passthrough but Apple will not allow that till end of humanity as they think it will hurt potential sales of movies. They think people will watch movies stored on home NAS via app called Infuse.

I love my Apple TV and it has amazing potential. My kids love playing games on it with a couple of controllers. The problem is nobody is releasing games for it. There were a couple of really good ones initially... but these are still the best ones years later.
