There is so much tech Apple could adopt foldable screens, no notches or islands, better wifi etc.

Instead Apple continues to choose to focus on the camera, and tiny twicks like dynamic island last year & the action buttion this year.

They have also adopted a subscription model like car crash detection. Whilst continuing to raise costs, this makes me to shake my head.
The best camera tech writer Thom Hogan uses a term "moving the cheese," which refers to moving of camera buttons, etc. moving when a new model (e.g. Nikon D5 to D6) is introduced. Heavy users mostly hate it when the cheese moves as a camera body matures, because they have to re-learn how to do the job they were already doing well on the old model.

So I generally disagree with Marty80's comment. I do not want my iPhone Pro tool getting its cheese moved for things like foldable screens, no notches or islands, etc. Better WiFi does not require moving any cheese. Sometimes cheese does need moving to make things work better; for instance some day I expect Apple to improve the currently awful camera ergonomics, especially shutter release.

The thing is, IMO user operation is what causes overheats quite a lot and consumes a lot of power, thus the poor battery life. Not in my best guess the A16 chip per se but rather the operation of the the A16 chip as we users interact with iOS.

E.g. take an iPhone 14 Pro RAW photo and iOS will stay in camera mode until the camera app is turned off, which will lead to overheating which by definition is draining the battery and overworking the iPhone internals. A subtle distinction perhaps, but user operation that turns off the camera app when not being used 100% fixes it for me, so I do not fault the chip. I do fault the iOS, but then again I am not the one writing the code...
Yeah user error. i don’t even want to argue about this. Just think what you want to think.

The all day and a half “poor” battery life. Put my phone down on the charger after full day of use for work with average 40% left. The 14 pro battery is amazing.
Guess you really concentrate on your work. That’s good. Haha!

No idea what you’re talking about. I’ve just upgraded from a 12 mini to a 13 mini (so I can keep it another 4+ years). I use a zoomed view (which I only remembered because my friends ask if I’m blind). Never had a problem with any apps.

I rarely use my phone in landscape mode so I can comment on that.
The notch cuts off content on some apps and screen content in landscape mode. Worse in zoom mode.

And in landscape if you try to type something in a website the keyboard often covers the entire screen so you can’t see what you are typing.

Why's that? It's slow charging and with the iPhone's way of charging, it should be fine.
There’s always extra heat involved with wireless charging. Obviously Apple had put a ton of effort into mitigating the effects of it, but chemistry is chemistry. Degradation will be quicker with wireless and/or fast charging.

I think landscape keyboard is THE reason I don’t use landscape to begin with to be honest. That would hold true even if I could bear to use one of these giant phones now.

but in portrait mode it’s just too tiny to type in with the mini. So either fumble for keystrokes or type blind like a teenage texter from 2005. Those weren’t compromises I wanted to make.

But the device itself was a thing of beauty.

My take on it is it should have been as wide as a standard 13 just not as tall with a 16:9 screen (+ whatever thickness the notch requires at the top). It was just too narrow.

I understand your disikes frankly speaking I ignored since “notch started since iPhone X. I have no issues.

For the most advanced camera tricks, the faster the better. Which is why the Pros need the fastest. In year two, if they bring those tricks to the non-pros with the same chip in the next iOS, there will be newer tricks that only work with the newest chip. Rinse and repeat.
Agree. SoC specs are not deal breaking until you start casually editing or stitching together 4K videos on your phone.

The same trick again. But mind you, the A16 chip on the iPhone 14 Pro overheats quite a lot and consumes a lot of power, thus the poor battery life and health of the 14 Pro.

Um no. It’s simply cheaper batteries and Apple will be using even cheaper ones in the 15 Pro/Max. My 14 Pro Max has never overheated.

The degradation of battery health of my iPhone 14 Pro was obviously quicker than previous generations. This happened to some of my friends using the 14 Pro too. Not to mention the numerous accounts on Twitter..uhh X. Maybe this really has something to do with the battery quality, or a combination of both.
As an iPhone 12 Pro user, the battery felt gaked at launch (compared to the iPhone 8 I had previous), I dont recall any phone since having as shorted a capacity, even the 14's.

15 seems like it will rock a long battery life from what I've seen and I'm excited to get something/anything better than the 12 Pro (reminder, not the battery at current after a few years of use; the damn thing was shorted by several hours length compared to my aged 8…checked, this was normal, it legit just had a lower capacity battery for its power usage).

Okay, that makes sense. It really doesn't get that warm, but 94% capacity kind of says so...

Every solution has pros and cons. I think its important to look at what they are.

* Does the screens without a cutout identify a face just as secure and good as the pill cutout and in every scenario?
* How much more expensive is such a solution?
* Whats the quality like when using it taking pictures and with Facetime compared to the current solution?
I was commenting just the design side, not the technical standpoint. You're right when it comes to the technical stuff.

But from the design standpoint, pill cutout is way too big and looks dated to me. Not saying I have alternative to have non-cutout design and great tech as well.

I have tiny garden gnome hands and I much prefer the gigantic iPhone. ... I really do think the Mini needs to stay in the lineup for those that prefer it, though. ...
I also have tiny hands. I resisted big phones for the longest time then I had a moment of epiphany. My hands are so small that I was already using my iPhone X 2-handed most of the time. I was just picking up my phone and using it and how I used it felt natural to me because using it 2-handed was what I had to do even on that relatively small (compared to a Pro Max) phone. Because it was natural to me I'd never really noticed that I was using 2 hands most of the time but once I did, just as the iPhone 11 series came out, I thought "well, if I already use 2 hands to work my phone then why on earth don't I get the benefits of a big screen and the spectacular battery life of the 11 Pro Max?" so I did and I've never looked back. Other people might not come to the same conclusion as I did but that's my little guy's journey from despising big phones to now loving them.

I also agree 100% on keeping an iPhone Mini in the lineup. Not everyone is like me and I think it would be very sad if some people are forced out of the iPhone ecosystem because Apple no longer caters to those who do prefer a smaller phone. Having as big an iPhone community as possible helps us all in terms of funding Apple development and nurturing big and vibrant 3rd party app and hardware accessory marketplaces.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I’ve never really been on the “one-handed-use” train. Why use two hands and squint at my screen and look at smashed and truncated versions of websites and apps when I can have this massive screen real estate to enjoy content on? I’ve never gone back either. It’s a game-changer.

Other manufactures aren’t really providing small phones either, unfortunately, and now Android makers are into this folding phone thing, so it’s going the exact opposite direction in terms of size. That’s why Apple making small, yet premium phones was so important.

So iPhone16,1 = iPhone 15 pro = A17 chip. Jesus, can't they think of a better system for naming this ****?
Why?

Its not uncommon that there is an internal name or other more complicated name behind the simplified customer friendly one that's being used.

Same with cars, internally they usually have a quite complicated name but then launched they are just "Volvo V70"
