I on the otherhand am expierencing those issues and only use apple charging products as well. Battery is down to 88% and I get the warning when using my car play alot that charging has to pause until phone cools down.
Interesting. The battery on the 14 Pro/Pro Max is not the best, but there's no way its that bad. 88% battery health in less than one year sounds really bad. You probably got a defective battery, I would get that checked since you still have warranty.

Thank you! Downloaded but unfortunately can’t connect my phone via USB since I am running ios17 PB3. Is there a native iPhone app that can identify the battery manufacturer? I am pretty sure I have a Desay battery as my battery health is at 91% which Apple claims as “normal” after a year

Weird, phone just showed up on the coconut app. Shows 91.4% capacity left with a max design of 4323mAh, but is down to a max of 3951mAh now after 11 months.

Manufacturer… drum roll please… Desay Corporation!

This all but confirms Apples greed to make their consumers spend big for there latest tech.

I always prefer the pro max for my daily use. However for those who prefer to use smaller phones its a kick in the gut.

Apple is losing its 00’s Steve Jobs glow, the iphone design is becoming dated & ios is not fairing any better.

Worst of all the keynotes are getting boring, lacking guest appearances of the past & the lack of audience makes it feel zoned out.

I am keeping my fingers crossed the iphone 16 ultra can save the iphone with a new design overhaul and more focus on fine tuning ios.
There's only so much that can be down with a sandwich of glass and metal.

I am not seeing coconutbattery in the App Store or the MacOS store. Is there another name it goes by to check the battery manufacturer?
It's not in the appstore as far as I am aware - download it from https://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/

As well as analysing your mac battery there is an iOS Device option which will show iOS battery capacity and charging info. Clicking the Battery Info button will give manufacturer info.

Man, I keep oscillating between Pro and Plus.

I like the Plus because it's cheaper and has a bigger battery. But everyone says the A16 chip is power hungry, and the A17 will be 3nm and more efficient.

This makes me lean away from the Plus.

Comments like these make me shake my head. It’s a mature tech now, how can it look “dated”? It’s a glass rectangle. Bright OLED screen. Exactly how does that look “dated”?
We're beyond the big initial explosion of invention, but everyone is still coming down off the party and isn't used to being as bored by their cellphones as they are with their laptops or desktops.

I'm not candidate for it at launch, but it's good that Apple is moving into the AR space.

Maybe Apple will introduce iPhone Mini in the future. Let the iPhone Mini be born again!
I think if there was a 14 mini or 15 mini coming, by now there would’ve been more indications of that (rumors) coming from the supply chain. Then again, it doesn’t make sense that Apple would just list them for kicks. It’s possible that instead of lowering the price of the 13 mini to $499 or discontinuing it, Apple could replace it with a 14 mini which would probably be easy for Apple to do given the minor spec upgrades that we got from the 13 to the 14. They could then keep it at $599. It won’t give 13 mini owners a good reason to upgrade, but maybe for 12 mini owners? Right now, I think there’s probably a 75 percent chance that Apple discontinues the 13 mini, but Apple may want to keep giving current mini owners an option.

The same trick again. But mind you, the A16 chip on the iPhone 14 Pro overheats quite a lot and consumes a lot of power, thus the poor battery life and health of the 14 Pro.
The all day and a half “poor” battery life. Put my phone down on the charger after full day of use for work with average 40% left. The 14 pro battery is amazing.

People commenting on battery degradation….how often are you fast charging?

I would agree the naming of a pro chip in the range, when you also have a MacBook Pro or Mac Pro is confusing and can cause some tongue twisters, but that aside, I feel their naming convention is excellent. It's quick and easy to understand where in the pecking order the chip you are looking at is and then to find the tech specs for it. If you are the type of buyer who Apple loves and you must have the most expensive, bright and shiny everything, then you still get that warm glowing feeling when you tell everyone you have an "Ultra" computer. Telling them you have an X23 or whatever, doesn't have quite the charm.
Well, when a MBA has an M3 chip but the more expensive models have an M2, it isn't so clear because it's hard to tell which is faster and why you are paying more for less.

It's sort of like when the PPC 601 came out and then it was decided to go with a split model line of 603/604. It made more sense and allowed not only some differentiation in design but also a clear demarkation of which chip was better.

When the g3 came out, it wasn't put in the "worst" machines first, nor the G4, nor the G5. Apple's new strategy of putting the newest chip in the "worst" machines first is baffling to me.

There is so much tech Apple could adopt foldable screens, no notches or islands, better wifi etc.

Instead Apple continues to choose to focus on the camera, and tiny twicks like dynamic island last year & the action buttion this year.

They have also adopted a subscription model like car crash detection. Whilst continuing to raise costs, this makes me to shake my head.
No notch or island does present a UI problem though. Having some identifiable feature on the front to tell you which way is up is beneficial to ease of use. That said, I guess I'm just completely uninterested in folding screens, and would prefer the home button with TouchID comes back. I don't care about the lower bezel for the button. I just liked the flow of using the phone better than I do with everything being a swipe gesture now. We have so many swipe gestures and what not now that the phone often gets confused of which one I'm actually trying to activate. Same for Long Press. Bring back 3D Touch and the headphone jack, plz. For me peak ease of use of an iPhone was the 6S. It's only gotten more convoluted and messy since.

I have small hands, and I switched from a 12 mini to a 14 Pro Max. I got used to the large phone right away and I actually prefer the larger screen.

But yeah I understand that large phones are not for everybody, and I wish Apple understands that too. They should start making new mini iPhones again.
I had a 13 mini for 10 days and returned it for a a refurbed 12 Pro. The mini screen resolution is not properly supported by iOS and it makes it a compromise I couldn't deal with. Apps didn't render right, and landscape use was a joke. It SHOULD have been fine because the SE has lower overall resolution and the 8+ I came from had the same width screen, but it just didn't. Many apps and web pages locked onto the screen height as the deciding factor on how to render. Either that, or the Apple API developers simply abandoned the mini since it is discontinued and thus the calls get translated wrong. Either way, it was often unusable.

Yes they're now used to pulling this trick to make the non-pro line cheaper and look less attractive.

In this case it's not a problem because the A chips are crazy fast. Even my iPhone 5 from 2012 is (slightly laggy but) still usable. My 6s, XR, 12 and 14 Pro will never lag; Apple did drop or will drop support many years before this happens.
For the most advanced camera tricks, the faster the better. Which is why the Pros need the fastest. In year two, if they bring those tricks to the non-pros with the same chip in the next iOS, there will be newer tricks that only work with the newest chip. Rinse and repeat.

Why can’t people who don’t want an ugly, incredibly heavy phone with boring colours and a tumour on its back have access to the latest chip?
It's not a TUMOR!

But yeah, going from a 13 mini to a 12 Pro it's nice not have such a large camera bump. But I did notice better picture quality with the 13 mini, so the double bump isn't for nothing.

TBH a 14 Mini that had USBC would absolutely be a reason for me to upgrade from my 13 mini right now :)

No idea what you’re talking about. I’ve just upgraded from a 12 mini to a 13 mini (so I can keep it another 4+ years). I use a zoomed view (which I only remembered because my friends ask if I’m blind). Never had a problem with any apps.

I rarely use my phone in landscape mode so I can’t comment on that.

The thing is, IMO user operation is what causes overheats quite a lot and consumes a lot of power, thus the poor battery life. Not in my best guess the A16 chip per se but rather the operation of the the A16 chip as we users interact with iOS.

E.g. take an iPhone 14 Pro RAW photo and iOS will stay in camera mode until the camera app is turned off, which will lead to overheating which by definition is draining the battery and overworking the iPhone internals. A subtle distinction perhaps, but user operation that turns off the camera app when not being used 100% fixes it for me, so I do not fault the chip. I do fault the iOS, but then again I am not the one writing the code...
