While this is the internet, and therefore I should not be surprised that there are some people who will complain, I think all those few people who are 'upset' that Apple may be about to update the iPad, because they have an 'new' iPad need to think about what is important in their lives.

Apple are not updating the iPad to alienate their customers, but they are a business. They want to make sure that they have the best product that they can in the run up to the important holiday market. Apple's tablet market share is slipping now that there is more competition in the market, and one of their competitors (Microsoft) is just about to launch a brand new product in the market.

I still have an iPad 1, and use it every day, it still does the same things (and more with additional apps and functionality that have been added since it was first purchased), and your 'new' iPad will still be able to do the same stuff that it always did. I purchase devices to get stuff done, not to show off to my friends and family that I have the latest iDevice. I feel sorry for those that feel they are no longer the 'coolest' kid in the playground, because they don't have the latest and fastest. And no your 'new' iPad is not going to be obsolete because Apple may bring out a new device next week.

It is easy to say this when you have iPad 1 instead of holding week's old two new iPad going to become two OLD iPads in a week. But thats life, isn't it?

I purchased a new iPad (32GB Verizon) 15 days before the event. I returned it this morning (day 13) and the sales guy looked at me like I'm crazy. lol.

Still think people are working themselves up into a lather here - my feeling is the "tweak" will be limited to the lightning connector and 4G/LTE. I think the screen is a red herring as cannot see Apple relying on Sharp production yields alone for the iPad.

If they are permanently moving the refresh date to pre-Christmas then I guess we may see a bigger bump to carry them through the next twelve months, however if they stick to the Spring refresh timetable then that's when we'll see a proper revision with new processor etc.

ouch. Bought this on launch day for my wife. Outdated already. One of the things I really like(d) about Apple is that they usually did one-year cycles. That way, I knew that my latest toy would be new for at least a year...

oh well. I'm not sure we'll be buying any more iPads anyway.

[/COLOR]People are total isheep if they have an ipad 3 and upgrade to the refreshed version.

So what it has a new connector? Do you buy devices based on connectors?

Open your mind to the world outside. IF I DON"T OWN AN IPAD TODAY (WHICH I DON"T) WHY WOULD I BUY A 30 PIN CONNECTOR I PAD TODAY WHEN I KNOW COME APRIL THERE WILL BE ONE WITH THE NEW CONNECTOR.

I WILL WAIT TO BUY!!!'

WHY WOULD I WANT 2 DIFFRENT CABLES TO CHARGE MY DEVICES?

WHY WOULD I WANT 2 DIFFRENT CAR CHARGERS?

WHY WOULD I WANT TO REMEMBER TO TAKE BOTH CABELS AND CHARGERS AND 30PIN ADAPTORS ON VACATION?

I WOULD NOT!!!

I DO NOT PLAN TO BUY ANOTHER IPAD FOR 5 -6 YEARS!!!

SO WHY WOULD I WANT THE CONNECTOR I KNOW IS GOING TO BE OUTDATED IN LESS THAN A YEAR?

My thoughts are VERY basic!! get it!!

APPLE NEEDS TO UPDATE THE CURRENT IPAD AND SELL IT AS THE SAME IPAD AND JUST CHANGE THE CONNECTOR. NO FURTHER CHANGES TO THE DEVICE NEEDED.

IF THE CONNECTOR MEANS VERY LITTLE TO YOU THEN WHY WET YOUR PANTS OVER THE SMALL UPDATE?

"WAWAWAAA!! I JUST BOUGHT AN IPAD!!"

Cables are $20. I just bought an extra one for the 5th Gen iPod touch that I ordered earlier this month. You wait to buy a new iPad because you think a new one is forthcoming in the next month or so, not because you're too OCD or cheap to deal with having one device with one connector and one device with another. I have a Galaxy Nexus smartphone and, like every one else in the world, they use Micro-USB. I clearly do not mind having different connector options. Hell, soon, I'll have three different devices, with three different connectors. If anything, buying an iPad with a 30-pin connector today is advantageous over one with lightening as there is accessory support, video and audio line out support, camera connector support, and all sorts of things, whereas with lightening, you have none of that yet. Oh $20 adapter you say? No problem buying a $20 adapter, but problems buying an iPad with a soon-to-be outdated cable connector? That makes no sense at all. Notice my lack of rage-face over that.

Sounds like you could use that decaf, or at least a chill-pill. At the very least, you ought to build a bridge and get over it.

What is your opinion if I bought the new iPad less than 14 days ago and can exchange it...? It would be nice to only have to carry one cable to charge my ipad/iPhone...

But for less than the prce of a mini, you can get thise adapters.

Look at it this way, Apple can say look, our entire Mobile line up got the new port inside of a two month window, thus keeping fragmentation to a minimum.

The point I was making was primarily aimed at those that have had the 'new' iPad for several months, and are complaining. To be honest if you have only recently acquired one then, given Apple's usual timeframe it would have been updated in 5/6 months anyway. I just think there are more important things in life to be concerned with, than if you have the latest and greatest. Apple make these things for people to enjoy and use, and that does not change when it is updated.

Rumours have been around ever since the iPhone 5 announcement that Apple might update the iPad with the new connector before the Holiday season, so users of this site should have been aware of the risk, even if in the early days it did not have a lot of credibility.

Anyway sounds like you are taking the sensible, life goes on view with your That's Life comment, so good for you.

If the A6 is thrown into a redesigned iPad 3 model I will be absolutely pissed. That is a factor that will significantly reduce the life cycle of the current model.

In fact, I honestly don't understand WHY Apple doesn't give the iPad the BEST processor over the other devices just for the simple fact the bigger screen requires more juice to run it and the device is able to do many more things. Not to mention its twice the price of the iPhone (w/ contract)

Otherwise I'm not too concerned with the other updates, lightning port..well whoopty freakin do, Apple can't keep up with the conversion adapter demand as it is now so they're going to add two more products?

Battery Life improvement? 4G/LTE? Battery Life is fine for me as well as the charge times (just charge it over night, even if I use it during the day excessively I can always use it on the charger), don't care about 4G or LTE I have the Wifi version.

To the guy that said it would be a great idea to update the iPad 3 during the holiday session..no not really. The current release cycle is good. In March they get a sale spike for the new release and just as the sales start to slow the holidays boost the sales back up again despite being an "old" model. It gives the device two sales runs instead of one.

If A6 chip is in this new full size ipad its worth the upgrade if you really into gaming. Can't wait to play Modern Combat 4 on it if this rumor becomes reality! Use your local clasified or craiglist to sell outdated tech and pay for the difference, that what works for me. Apple devices always have good resell value.

I think it makes sense for Apple to do the revision ASAP. How many takers are there going to be for the current design when everyone knows there is a new connector in the pipeline?

Sounds more and more it will just be connector and lte radio updated. Kinda like the verizon ip4.

Next year will be the ipad 2 size ipad 3 with igzo, faster, thinner, lighter, A6X, and maybe one more thing

That would b my prediction.

While this may have been true in the past, it is not the case anymore. Apple's market share is slipping, as more significant competitors enter the market. Microsoft is just about to launch their tablet, and while a 8 month old product may have been fine in prior years, with limited competition, it is not the case anymore. I believe Apple is shifting the update cycle so they can make sure that they have the most up to date product they can before the critical holiday buying season. I don't believe you will see another iPad until the same time next year, so pretty convinced this one will get the A6.

Maybe it will only be a change in connector, like the cinema displays only changed to thunderbolt, but the rest stayed the same.

It's nice to have something for at least a year before it becomes obsolete.

at little better than Android lol... Seems to be a new Android phone every 3 months than after that's release leaks come out for the next one.. Its a bit ridiculous if u ask me...

Some of us can't believe that Apple would just change the lightning connector. I think it's possible that Apple just wanted to shift the release schedule of the iPad to October. If it gets a A6 or A6X tomorrow, then we'll know for sure.

You are a Troll that smokes crack.

Um yeah so I already own 30 pin chargers and have like 4 extra 30 pin cabels. I just dont want them any more becuase my iPhone 5 has the new connector and I KNOW the NEXT iPAD will also!!. WTF is so hard to get? Why is it your concern what I want? I don't give a damn if you care or not. I didnt ask for your approval.

umadbro?

Go outside and breathe fresh air. Life is too short to care so much about spending $500+ to ensure you only have one cable to take around.

True that! But yes I am holding out on any iPad purchases until the dust settles tomorrow.
