Unsure why it would have taken 7 months to create an insert of a slightly different thickness.... incredible product support.
The insert for the 16"/2020 Air has been available for a while. I got mine in April, but I'm not sure when they were actually released.

I have one and it is part of my home office. I prefer my one large monitor than having my laptop as a second screen. I am not quite sure people have to always question what others do. If it doesn't work for you then ignore the post. Good grief.

I can tell you I bought the 16 inch Macbook in February and the insert was not available.
So I waited for a while and gave up and just bought some different type of stand from Amazon.
They took months to come out with a simple insert? I just don't get it.

Since it appears we have lots of Book Arc users, I'd love to hear some people's experience with this kind of stands. Does a Mac not overheat/throttle in a clamshell mode? Or is this intended for light works only?

What's the point of this? Instead of being able to utilise both screens for a beautiful dual monitor experience, you just clam up your notebook and shut it away?

Who does this?! 🤦‍♂️ 😂 🙄
Ah, just be glad Apple isn't selling them. The price would be $599,00 instead of 59 bucks.

All Macbooks from 2016 and up fit the same insert, height difference is neglectable.

I do it, your smugness aside I do this because while working from home I have 2 27" monitors that perform better for my purposes than 1 monitor and the laptop screen, YMMV but I won't crap on you for it.

That being said I went with this one, adjustable so it works with cases.

that's the exact one I have it's awesome - Twelve South stuff is so over priced its comedy

I have been waiting for them to get rid of that dated chamfered edge on the silver model for a while. I’m surprised they’re not sticking with apples design language like they do on the space grey model...

Well, since I retired my Mac Pro, I use my MacBook Pro in clamshell mode with a gorgeous LG 4K monitor attached to it. It has become my main computer. I don't care for two screens. I rather have one giant monitor attached to it--my wife prefers this set up as well. The MacBook Pro never goes anywhere.

The 16" is uncomfortably tight in this stand with the insert from the 2016-2019 13 and 15" machines. The difference is definitely noticeable.

Question: Is there a way to turn on a MacBook Pro when it's closed and connected to an external monitor and keyboard/mouse? Thanks...
You'd have to open it up and turn it on, then just close it immediately.

WOW! It only took them 6 months to make the 15 inch insert wider. I didn't wait up for this. I sold mine and bought the Curve instead. It takes up more space, but I like the option of using my MBP opened when needed.

As others have said, sometimes I use both screens and sometime like to keep it simple with just the external screen active. That picture reminds me how utterly hideous that LG screen is. It is extraordinary that it was/is an approved Apple external monitor to replace its own display. I would never have such a thing on my desk - never.

Mac or PC usually have one if not more connected to a big display, Twelve South is just bringing options that work for many...

Yes, clamshell mode kills Macbooks. I highly advise anyone to re-consider this setup and keep the MacBook open when in use.

See this thread of what can happen to your MacBook with this type of use case -

My stock 2011 15" MBP has a differing opinion...

Has anyone seen the new inserts available on European online resellers? Price with shipping from Twelve South gets really high.

If it’s possible to use external monitor while macbook is in clamshell mode, why it’s not possible to turn off completely imac’s display while using a tv with it???

I use dual monitors for a beautiful dual monitor experience. One monitor in portrait orientation, the other in landscape.

Don't forget that you also get to upgrade your laptop sooner, because doing this causes it to run hotter and shorten the life of the GPU, processor, and screen!

Seriously, NEVER run your laptop closed. There just isn't enough airflow to cool it, and you WILL shorten its life. I've replaced too many logic boards and screens because somebody was dumb enough to do it.
