Twelve South today launched the new HoverBar Duo, an adjustable stand that securely holds the iPad or iPhone, priced at $79.99. The accessory has dual functionality: it can sit on a desk as a weighted stand, or you can attach it to a shelf with the included shelf clamp.

Compatible iPads include all generations of the iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro, and iPad mini, as well as any iPhone. The HoverBar Duo features an adjustable clamp design, with arms that stretch to fit any iPad or iPhone.

Twelve South is pitching the accessory as both a work companion for drawing with an Apple Pencil on the iPad or taking Zoom calls, as well as a way to easily read recipes in the kitchen.

I wanted to ask who buys such crap, but some posters here to - well. Have fun with that fugly thing - would never use such a thing next to an iMac.

in the kitchen well if you think its cool - i think it doesn’t work - too unstable.
Cool well some people find a really major use for these as iPads make for nice kitchen companions but take up too much room and can get dirty. These mounts solve that problem.

The one in the OP is ultra overpriced but as a category of products these are extremely handy for many people

Seems like a great peripheral device for ergonomic reasons, especially when/if the iPad Pro has an MX-level chipset.
My experience is that the type of clamp they are using is extremely unpleasant to work with day after day.
Far nicer is
-stick some thin iron sheets (like magnetic car mounts use) on the back of your ipad
- use a magnetic mount (as is used by a lot of iPhone photo mounts)

A good magnetic mount and 2 or 3 credit card-sized iron sheets are enough to hold a 12.9" iPad Pro surprisingly securely.
It is frequently the case (but I can't promise anything...) that the parts used for these mounts are interchangable. I was lucky enough that this was the case for the mount I chose, a luxo-lamp style thing.

The clamp at the iPad end was unacceptable, but it was easy enough to remove and replace with a magnetic clamp from

Agree on both points.

If you need something that just sits on your desk then I have heard pretty good things about this one.

If you need something that can mount to a cabinet like the one in the OP (which I do admit is a pretty cool for kitchen use when you want to save as much counter space as possible) then just wait a bit. Twelve South will inevitably put these things on sale.

I've been thinking about something just like this. Wasn't thinking this price. But something like it.

I have a 6th generation iPad I got two years ago at a great black friday deal, but then I found myself never using it. As my MBP has gotten noisier and more annoying for various reasons, I've found myself using the iPad, and recently bought a bluetooth combo trackpad/keyboard for it (no keyboard/trackpad cases alas for the 6th generation iPad). But I've used it more as a desktop type computer anyway. A stand like this was going to be the next step.

I'd like to see a version that supports the iPad Pro's magnetic mounts. Otherwise I have a few from Amazon that are less than half the price and just as nice.

I wonder if it would support a Surface Pro 5 properly. My wife is looking for this type of holder for hers, but when you read the reviews of those cheaper things on Amazon (and there are no true heavy duty ones on there) people say they can't really support iPad Pro 12.9's or Surface Pro's because the weight makes them sag down, unless you tighten the arm screws to the breaking point (several reviewers have broken them).
