I swear I've seen this exact product before on Amazon (not made by Twelve South), but I can't seem to find it. Oh well. I really don't see the real need for it because, as many of you have pointed out, there are plenty of household items that do the same thing. I'm using 2 wooden coasters right now. Granted it doesn't come with me when I'm out and about, but I really don't want something like this for the price they're asking.

Something like this?

http://www.bluelounge.com/us/stands/kickflip/

Looks easier to use, doesn't cover the whole base of the MacBook (the baselift might insulate heat) and also only $17.95.

I think i like the one from twelve south better haha

Early April Fool's Joke?

This has to be an early April Fool's joke, right?

I love TwelveSouth's BookBook's but I swear each product they've release since then has moved more towards WTF?, culminating in this thing that looks like it was designed for the clearance bin at Fry's Electronics.

In fact, isn't that kind of angle the worst thing you can do to your wrists, ergonomically speaking?

That was my second thought, right after "this is a solution searching for a problem." I don't think I've ever complained about this so called issue. And if it were a problem, I damn well would not pay for $40 for it!

I actually think it's kind of a neat solution, but it's apparently a quarter-pound. That's actually not that insignificant to add to one of the lighter laptops as a full-time load for something you'll only really use part time.

Yes. This makes typing on a laptop, which is already poor, ergonomically speaking, actually worse.

I suppose theoretically this would be better than not if you also had something that elevated your wrists, so that your arm and wrist formed a straight line. But the incline still looks too steep. Raising keys further away from you makes them easier to reach, but the Macbook keyboard is already smaller than

standard. This is a stupid product for people with stupid spending habits.

Thermal properties of BaseLift for MacBook

As someone who supports several dozen MacBooks of various models of a BaseLift-relevant 2009-2014 vintage, I'm skeptical about any product that acts as a de facto thermal insulator across to the largest exterior surface of these laptops, which are designed to dissipate some of the operating heat through their metal (generally an effective thermal conductor) chassis and case integration design, i.e. what Apple used to market as unibody.

I don't understand the methodology used to select "articles" for this blog any longer. There are dozens of "lift" stands for computers, why do these guys get special billing? I would understand a "products we think are worth a look" post, but a featured post again?

Who are these Twelve South guys - makers of Apple kitsch who get regular billing on a popular mac blog. "They have a macbook case that looks like a book! Front page!"

So the creative director of twelve south gives it a great review and says it's a must have. Interesting, oh wait Twelve South is the company that makes it.
