Whatever. For some reason Apple still hasn't made Ping available worldwide. A social network closed to a few countries, how useful

Does anyone here use ping?

I don't and I don't know anyone that does. I honestly can't find a use for it. I've played around with it but that's it.

Of course, I've never been on Facebook and I used Twitter back when it first began but not anymore.

Good for Ping, smart Apple! Maybe this will push Facebook to come around. I keep forgetting to look at my Ping page, maybe I'll do that now.

Also a smart way of apple sneaking its way into Facebook...

Seeing as twitter has an official FB app to update users FB status from Tweets....

So now the route goes Ping! > Twitter > Facebook....

LOL.... very smart apple... a nice little trojan horse!

Why is it all or nothing? I don't want all of my Ping activity to be tweeted. It would be nice if I could choose what I do and to not want posted to Twitter.
Given that Ping has not exactly been a rousing success, there probably is little point in 'pinging' if it does not get out on another channel as well.

I use Twitter but see no reason to link my iTunes/Apple ID name to my Twitter name. Also, when I want to tweet about music, I want to do this without sending people down a commercial link.

I understand the general motivation of Apple, I just feel that the commercial approach of Apple does not mix well with social life. My social life is not about living from referral revenue (not that Ping would give me any).

Kinda wish ping would let you use it to market podcasts too because there are so many it would be nice to be able to compare with others, and that would really help people on twitter, because now instead of just linking to there page they could like to the itunes store.

That is Brilliant POST! I never would had looked at it that way.......

I don't have a facebook or a twitter account.
I don't know what a tweet is.

I really could care less about what someone is listening to nor do I care to share what I am listening to.

As long as I can turn it off completely, others can ping as much as they want.

Why are you here again :)? You left out "Get off my grass" in your post...

You don't know what a tweet is? Seriously? I don't care if you don't use the service, but to not know what it is, well that's just obtuse. Twitter is all over the interwebs, all over the idiot box, all over paper advertising. How can you not know what it is?

I just signed on Twitter thru Ping and it said "one person you follow on Twitter is on Ping". I follow over 300 people on Twitter. It's going to take awhile.

Very true, that would go a long way towards making Ping more important. In fact, I wonder if Apple feared it would get overwhelmed if it did this.

I know what twitter is. I have used it multiple times for a short period and stopped an equal amount of times. He is not missing out on anything.

It's like those people turning their phones on as soon as the plane has touched down and before it has docked. If you are really THAT important you are not flying coach on a public plane. Same goes for twitter. Nothing is THAT important that it can't wait to be written in an email or article. I can wait a few hours to hear about Ashton Kutcher's new fridge arrangement, or Rihanna's last fistfight with a boyfriend in a well written article in stead of in 140 characters with bad grammar...

Sorry for ranting...

I'm glad that you could care less about what other people listen to. It's clear that you could as you bothered to comment on it.

I couldn't care less about your opinion though. I just hate the mis-spelling of that phrase, even if it does originate from regional dialects.

Well, tweets are articles (or e-mails), just very short ones (and very public ones). Most posts on daringfireball for example would probably fit into a tweet.

Twitter is just a convenient blogging platform (or a convenient e-mail newsletter). There is nothing wrong with making blogging convenient (you seem to imply that making it easy encourages the blogging of trivial stuff and for that reason it is of dubious moral value).

I just signed up for this integration, but strangely it says that none of my twitter friends are connected to Ping.

This isn't true -- there are several music artists who I follow both on Ping and on Twitter.

I guess either the e-mail addresses that my twitter friends used do not match the ones they used for Ping...or perhaps it's because the artists themselves haven't associated their twitter account. Probably the latter.

It will be interesting to know whether the twitter integration accounts for the difference between a people/person friend and a band. Hmmm. I mean could a band associate their twitter or is this only intended for "regular" people?

Wait a minute. You are putting words in my mouth. I didn't say or imply anywhere that twittering is "of dubious moral value". I just said that the few little pieces of quality that are surely present in the twitter community are drowned out by all the nonsense and mostly useless retweeting.

nice work apple. I didn't bother with ping in the itunes update, but I do use twitter and this is a great addition to it.......hopefully more user will sign up to it now. I will certainly be checking it out later.
