Musk cannot run a company with positive earnings that's not either based on a government contract or government subsidy.

Tesla- Government subsidies in the form of tax rebate credits and carbon credits.

SpaceX - Government contracts

Solar City - Government subsidies and tax credits

Boring Company - Government contracts.

Nueralink may be the only one not directly funded in some manner by the US Government however its directly benefiting from Musk's other companies that are Government funded.

He might be the single biggest corporate welfare beneficiary in US history.

Its like all his business plans were based on getting money from the Government.

Whatever you think of Peter Thiel he was the brains behind PayPal which lead to a big payday for Musk.

Musk didn't start and was not a founder of Tesla. Through litigation he eventually was allowed to use the title founder.

Its been reported that he deceived banks and the US Government in order to secure funding for Tesla.

I don’t use Twitter a lot. Just to follow some people or businesses like MacRumors.
But now I’m forced to use Twitter’s own app, I really have to look hard for tweets I want to see in between all the ads and promoted Twitter accounts.

If they don’t let tweetbot back on soon, I’m just going to delete my Twitter account

Excellent points! I wonder if Elon Musk is planning on making his first payment for the loan he took out to purchase Twitter.

I mean, this story just came out today:

He's been a fraud all along.
So it was Tesla who originated the idea of faking their promo videos, not Nikola. 🤣

I'm guessing that this is more about some unauthorized use of the APIs than it is about the CEO. Shut them all off, get it sorted out, and only then turn them back on. I can't see this lasting for very long. Oh and I hope everyone realizes that API usage bypasses ad revenue. So when the APIs come back on be prepared.

they are going to do this kind of bs why not at least make the native clients usable? The Mac client constantly crashes if you attempt to open the right click context menu and the Android client is just buggy. More OSes than iOS exist and it is tiring acting like it doesn’t. I now am forced to use the Web client on my Mac that just a few short months ago had a working and smooth Twitter application.
with what devs?

the problem here is that there are "smaller" (in terms of usage) apps that are still working... Elon in his "wisdom" banned the most popular (usage wise) apps

Updated January 17th, 2023: We still have not received any clear communication as to why Twitter deactivated Twitterrific on January 13th. We have been respectful of their API rules, as published, for the past 16 years. We have no knowledge that these rules have changed recently or what those changes might be.

He might have to charge $9 a month then...

Of course, he fired the person in charge of editing the pricing page's HTML.

So.....

I had a feeling this was going to happen. But I figured the people using a third party twitter app were in the minority so they wouldn't care so much. I guess Elon really wants to get that extra 1% of revenue from third party app users. These third-party apps have got more and more harder to use over the years, with missing features and twitter limiting their tokens causing some developers to limit their userbase by mandating a recurring subscription to use the app. That being said, Fenix is still working for me.

Funny how when people were unjustly getting banned/censored/suspended it was all good, but Elon bans third-party apps now it's not so good. I'll tell you what they told me "it's a private company"
Elon can do whatever he wants - it's his company. I just find it funny he preached free speech and censorship and has done more banning and censorship than the old Twitter ever did.

It doesn't matter though. All these stories are deck chairs on the Titanic. Twitter will be bankrupt before the end of this year, and it doesn't look like there is much that can be done to avoid it at this point.

I think it's about $$$ as there are no ads or promoted tweets shown on Tweetbot.

Here's the lack of strategic thinking that baffles me. Musk could have done the following:

  1. Call in the leads of the major client apps and discuss a rule change: Show our ad stream unless the account is a blue subscriber.
  2. Define a date for this announcement to the public with an expected client update xxx months later.
  3. Define a sunset date where twitter will break for apps that fail to update to the new rules.
But no, lets just manage based on some random thought.
