The paradox of tolerance

Truth. Tolerance is like free speech. Neither one exists without limits. We don’t, for example, tolerate people who sexually abuse children. That’s not a “viewpoint” we as a society invest with acceptance on any level. Though some don’t want to hear it, the same holds true for racists, nazis, white nationalists and insurrectionist terrorists. These figures are not welcome in polite society. We don’t afford them the respect of tolerance because doing so implicitly damages the rights and privileges of those they target.

Some “viewpoints” aren’t welcome in polite society. Just as some forms of speech are not protected Constitutionally.

False. This smear is often used by the extreme right wing (which I’m not accusing you of being part of.) Tolerance is like free speech. Neither one exists without limits. That's exactly what I mean about the paradox of tolerance. Tolerating intolerance only serves to strengthen the worst of society.

"The paradox of tolerance states that if a society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant is eventually ceased or destroyed by the intolerant."

In that case we absolutely agree.

Rebranding idea must have been bright as now you can give someone advice to “do not search for eX” or “visiting Ex is not smart but risky”.

“Do not use eX” sounds…

I don't mind all the changes he's made, but I do wish he'd introduce a bad word list. Giving us 200 mute words isn't enough. They should maintain a list behind the scenes of all the bad words, in all the languages, with all the different spellings, maybe split into mild words and the worst words, and then let users choose whether to toggle them on or off. 90% of the dodgy comments would be hidden in an instant, or at least asterisked out, and there would be no need to block anyone.
