This event is going to be focused around a $15 iPhone camera part. Said $15 part will make them a billion dollars due to the overwhelming number of eager consumers that are all too willing to take on a $45 monthly payment for a $1000 phone. They need to make it look different, so everyone knows the phone is new. Socioeconomics, or at least the perception of wealth.

I'm getting one and couldn't give less of a crap if anyone notices I have the new phone or not. I don't go around looking at people's phones to see if it is the new one. Do people actually do that?

A new sensor (48MP up from 12MP) will get you much detailed photos and if the aperture and pause time are right, with some magic from the software/firmware, it should definitely get us astrophotography. Not sure if that’s going to be enough for throngs of people to upgrade. We can trust Apple’s spin mach… sorry Marketing team to emphasize many other benefits of more pixels like digital zoom which could go 20x or more.
Shouldn't they just be able use the GPS and gyroscopes and camera focal length and just download a picture of whatever star field the phone is pointing at? It would even work when cloudy. :)

I'm guessing so since Apple always seems to add something unique each year.

As nice as this sounds, I would bet this update would focus on speed and camera improvements more than anything else.
I would rather have emergency access to satellites for 911 and other emergency communications. But I doubt Apple would provide that without additional costs so probably the camera.

I like the idea! Haha. But sort of misses the point of a person taking their own photographs.

Just to point something out, I'm not sure if anyone has noticed - You can tell at least 5-6 colored dots in the Apple logo. Perhaps to represent the new colors for the iphone? I was able to make out purple, green, white and what seems like peach like light orange with a white color in the middle?

What a strange time we live in? We are going to get these iPhones to pretty much do the same thing we have been doing since at least the iPhone 4s. The 4s is when Apple introduced a decent enough camera on the iPhone that could replace your point and shoot; the App Store had matured enough, Instagram was around, but not as narcissistic as it is today. Sure, the pictures and videos are much sharper, but our routines have not deviated or changed significantly in the past 12 years.

The cracks are there and Apple knows it, but its keeping it together and finding what can help it move to the next consistent revenue stream; right now, thats services. Soon, the iPhone will go in that direction. Because with the current economy and just the state of world affairs, a new iPhone gives only a month or two of euphoria then we come right back to reality. I've said it many times on the forums, Apple has pretty much sold the same phone since 2017.
