I dont get the whole astrophotography need (assuming thats what this is connected to). The people that will use this in earnest will be in the absolute minority (and no doubt will have pro-level kit for this) - it just feels to me like the gimmick of gimmicks.
I agree.

The wonders of the universe, lost on some.
Not at all.

I am full of wonder and awe for the universe and all its splendour.

But that does not preclude me from a bit of critical thinking of things down here on earth and concluding this is just a gimmick of Apple to drive sales for a lackluster iPhone 14 update.

How many starfield photos are you going to see before you start rolling your eyes.

I suspect the Astrophotography will just be a vehicle to sell another product:

Apple Tri-Pod™

Anyone knows hand held does not cut it when it comes to stuff like this.

So… another product another revenue stream. Genius.

Love it! What about the “Tripod Touch”?

What a strange time we live in? We are going to get these iPhones to pretty much do the same thing we have been doing since at least the iPhone 4s. The 4s is when Apple introduced a decent enough camera on the iPhone that could replace your point and shoot; the App Store had matured enough, Instagram was around, but not as narcissistic as it is today. Sure, the pictures and videos are much sharper, but our routines have not deviated or changed significantly in the past 12 years.

The cracks are there and Apple knows it, but it’s keeping it together and finding what can help it move to the next consistent revenue stream; right now, thats services. Soon, the iPhone will go in that direction. Because with the current economy and just the state of world affairs, a new iPhone gives only a month or two of euphoria then we come right back to reality. I've said it many times on the forums, Apple has pretty much sold the same phone since 2017.
👏 This. I’ve said it previously but the excitement around the iPhone has been gone since the X came out for me.

Happy I waited 10 years before buying my first smartphone, an SE2. I’ve used iPads since day 1, with a cheap mobile router for WiFi. Now my SE2 is my iPad router. I love my SE2 and just got a new free battery replacement (at the end of my 2-year Apple Care) to keep it going for another 2-3 years. So I have no interest in new phones. I’d rather buy a new iPad.

And all this time everyone thought they were working on a self driving car.. It'a an Apple Spacecraft!!

The wonders of the universe, lost on some.
Yeah, I enjoy looking at the sky, and if I can capture an image that shows even just a few more things up there than I can see with the naked eye with the ease of simply setting up my phone and allowing the aperture to remain open for 30 sec…I’ll do it. I never said I am an astrophotographer or that my images are great, but I enjoy it nonetheless!

With the energy pricing for heating, electricity and gas in Europe. Apple should not expect much sale there…just in Denmark the total cost have raised like 8000$ more a year for a family
US is also quite high with no signs of stopping. Its a bad time to be a luxury goods manufacturer.

The excitement for a new iPhone won't return until they make the next radical change in design.

At this stage they pretty much look the same (removing the notch is pathetic, could've been done years ago—it's a marketing ploy to bastardise your own product only to then appear to improve upon it) and do the same.

My vote is for astrophotography.

Yah. It could be! Milky Way shots are already doable with 13 pro max. With 48 megapixels and all that software stuff we might be able to do some truly “far out” sky shots

Also could be satellite communications stuff

Hope it’s both!

Notch stuff is pretty boring - they can do whatever.

I’d like lightning and usb C dual ports

Far out. Space photography. Or satellite stuff. Hmmm. I’m usually wrong on predicting what the slogans mean.

Got proof it could have been done years ago? Keep in mind, the iPhone has the Face ID tech there besides the camera. Was it technologically possible years ago?
