Hi All -

I'm new to following people on Twitter. There are some that interest me and some that are just fun to read if I happen to see them and there are some I want to know about as soon as they come through. I've gone into settings and done everything I know to do to be notified when a particular person or company 'tweets' but I'm not getting anything via my push notifications.

Can someone walk me through step by step how to make push notifications work for certain tweets to notify and other tweets should not.

Thanks!

I think your best bet is to do this:

1 - Start a dummy Twitter account and follow those people you're extra interested in. (Don't make it look spammy or they may block you, so give it a normal name with a nice photo. Doesn't have to be you, just a picture of anything.)

2 - Get the app named 'Boxcar.' It will send you push notices for different things in Twitter.

3 - Sign into Boxcar using the dummy account and turn on the 'Timeline' notices so that it will send you a notice whenever ANY of those people tweet. To remove a person, sign into the dummy Twitter account online and un-follow them there.

4 - When you get a notice, just check your normal twitter account in your normal Twitter app. You NEVER need to log in and look at the dummy account. It's just sitting there, acting as a filter for you to send you notices. No one needs to know it's you and you never need to log into it..

5 - Then go back to Boxcar and sign in again (it supports multiple accounts) using your real twitter name. Tell THAT account to push @ replies and DMs, but not the whole timeline.

This looks confusing, but once you get it set it should work great and you won't have to worry about it. Put Boxcar on your last page and never open it again!

i think with Twitter the only notifications you get is if someone tweets your @username you cant set it up for notifications for every time someone you follows tweets

thats how it use to be anways i havnt used twitter in months so maybe someone can confirm im wrong

Just sign up for text message notifications on twitter for people whose tweets you want to come to your phone instantly. Works well.

You can set up Boxcar to notify you whenever someone tweets or go through Twitter and set up text message notifications to do the same.

.....hmm I often thought about these notifications as well - might try that boxcar app - sounds good!!!

On a slightly different note (sorry for sounding like I'm hijacking the thread - I'm not!!) - when you 'Retweet' a tweet from someone you follow, is it supposed to show in my timeline- because my 'Retweets' never show up (even though I still get a confirmation that it has been 'Retweeted'.

I think that depends on the app and how it decides to display that information.

For example, I use Tweetbot and all it does is show 'Retweeted by you' text under the tweet in the timeline. I think other apps handle it differently.

You can actually do it from IM+ also

Plugin your account and then select followers, you can select to get a push from each one you want to select. That sounds exactly like what you want.

I have the pro version but i think the free one will also do the same.
