It's funny, Elon's trying to figure out ways to increase revenue, but he basically cut off all revenue from developers.

Yes, I know this is all about increasing advertising revenue. But there's ways to do that without banning third party apps. They could change the API so that third party apps have to show ads, and any revenue from that goes to Twitter. They can also have different tiers, with a more expensive one with no ads.

Or maybe there isn't anyone left working for Twitter that knows how to change the APIs.

I mean... all the skilled API coders are probably all gone since November.

The only ones left working there are the janitors.... umm wait....

People in here think twitter is dead or dying because they decided to leave, thinking their 100 some followers and retweets about new Mac products would affect twitter as a whole....when I reality they are number 1 right now in free apps.

Right now, in free apps at the App Store:
3: TikTok
5: Instagram
7: YouTube
8: WhatsApp
11: Telegram
12: Facebook
15: Twitter

This is what happens when you make things up.

Yikes, I am now using the official Twitter app for the first time. Tons of random posts from people I don’t follow and an advertisement every 5 posts. Sucks.

bruh… it sucks. idk how the majority of people use the official app 24/7.

there is way too much going on. I use Tweetbot and it’s night and day. I feel like I miss so much shxt using the official app.

this truly sucks. and TB was only $5.99/year!

I don't care if it's a little barebones at the moment, but I'm liking Mastodon so far. I like that it's a little quieter. It feels a little like the early days of Twitter.

Thankfully they have the "following" tab which makes it bearable, but it defaults back to "for you" whenever you restart the app. It's terrible. Without getting too much into politics, "for you" doesn't live up to the name, that's all I'll say.

twitter business model is selling ads
other clients did not show them
they also didnt pay them anything
makes zero sense to support them. like, do you know any alternative instagram client for example?
I figured this would happen when Elon took over. Ad revenue is the reason.

Ads are ALREADY part of the API, because the official Twitter client and the Twitter website are consumers of the API. The only difference is that they are allowed to access private API functions that third-party apps cannot.
Twitter has ALWAYS limited what the API provides to third parties, in exchange for payment

Ads were not part of the API despite your claims to the contrary

All of this BS is on Twitter, and their now obvious goalpost moving shenanigans

A friend told me the one upside he's found to using the Twitter client instead of a third-party app is that he's on Twitter a lot less than he used to be, because the user experience is such a dumpster fire.

This is what happens when you build your business on someone else's... especially when the someone else is a douchebag and his business was useless **** to begin with.

It’s basically unusable. Random posts “you might like” (umm no I won’t). Ads. All out of chronological order so who knows if you miss any.

Will that translate to profitability? Heck if I know, but its clear twitter was already in a really bad spot pre buy out.
Your assessment will enrage the narcissists and disingenuous Musk haters on this thread; keep it up, have an up-doot 😀

Twitter isn't even in the Top 10 right now. Keep trying to stick up for Elon though.
Why you always lyin’? 🎶

Most third party Twit developers just keep making minor changes to their apps and charging again and again for “new” versions.

Couldn’t care less about Elon or Twitter, don’t use it. But glad to see Tweetbot and others get what they deserve.

Think I left Twitter when Tweetbot was on its 3rd-4th version and not much changed from one to the other, but the dev charged $5 each time. Now it has a sub. 🙄 What’s it on now, v7? Stupid.
These app developers act like they are something special. Reality is they are mostly all pretty scummy themselves.
