No offense intended mate. I clear my name of guilt by admitting I have accounts on two of them...

But seriously, am I missing something? I mean, are they like web-based IM or something? I've only heard them described as microblogs..

It can be used many ways, my friends and I use it for sort of a text messaging chat room.

I see - thank you. :) Does it offer benefits over conventional IM though? (guess this shows how behind I am in tech stuff, eh?)

...then again, I have three IM clients, and seldom use those either!

yeah, it can be used through text messaging. You send a text to twitter and twitter sends it to everyone who is following you on twitter.

Kind of like social IM... it appears my previous assumption of Twitter was erroneous. Ta

I don't even have a facebook or myspace account. Frankly, social networking bugs me.

I feel pretty close to that myself - I use IM only for business (not for new friends), but much prefer email. It gives me the the freedom to respond-at-will.

I didn't mean that in a condescending way, so I'm sorry if you took it that way. I have a lot of friends that love the face book thing. I just can't get passed how fake the whole thing feels. Do you know what I mean?

Not at all, I think it's a good way to stay in touch with people. I like the idea that I'll have an easy way of contacting old high school friends once I'm off to college.

My sister gives me the same argument. For me it just feels that the personal touch is gone when conversing over the internet. I would much rather give someone a call and actually talk to them. I don't know, that's just how I am, I guess.

if it is a text messaging chat room... why not use an iChat or skype or something?

i, too, am trying to find out, why this is a good thing...

Because I don't carry my computer with me everywhere. It's nice for making plans and I don't have to wait for everyone to get online. If you don't have a use for it then don't use it.

I can barely stand the bulletins/blogs on MySpace let alone a whole website dedicated to blogging.

Modlife>Facebook>MySpace>all others:D

I'm a twitter guy and have been for quite a while. You can follow me here if you'd like. I pretend to be interesting, so I enjoy when people return that by pretending to be interested. I've had some crazy people follow me, so my page is private, but if you do get the crazy urge to want inside my head, just request to follow and I'll approve almost instantly. I'll be hopping online shortly to go through and add the MR people who've already posted in this thread.
