yeah there's official integration with OSX, but that doesn't allow you to watch a twitter stream. always having a web browser open can be a pain in the ass sometimes

with all the API restrctions they are putting on 3rd party developers, hopefully they have a bigger plan in play

More than likely Apple is working with Twitter on advanced functionality via Services that allows more app collaboration with Twitter so continuing to extend functionality to a client app seems redundant.

I thought the same.

Apple integrate Twitter in to iOS and OS X more, so no need for a Mac client.

With a bit of work, Twitter could work well within Mail or Messages. Proper integration is needed anyway, if I want to send someone a message do I use; email, sms, Messages, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and so on.

Twitter is now the Intuit of social media.

Start the clock. They'll be the next Myspace in no time. Selling out your users for media companies hasn't worked for anyone. Ask AOL, Yahoo, Microsoft, Real, Myspace, et al.

Yeah but maybe apple is going to further implement twitter (and facebook when it arrives with ios 6) in Mac OSX. I always thought since I upgraded to mountain lion that twitter integration was useless without being able to see the stream wothout using your browser.

I guess Twitter is trying to be a web-only service... I wonder when they'll discontinue their iOS apps

That'll be a VERY stupid move.

Microsoft doesn't really belong on that list: seeing as the make enterprise solutions and hardware as well as consumer software.

I'm no business expert, but this is literally the dumbest move I have ever seen.

API changes make it difficult for third parties to make apps? Whats the point of that?

wtf...

Not a big Twitter user myself, but by locking things down, I see it's usefulness coming to an end. Perfect opportunity for another service to come along and do it open and do it better.

I wonder if Apple is going to regret being so closely aligned with Twitter, unless they buy them.

Nobody is buying Twitter so we can drop that angle, The owners have said that they aren't interested in selling it to anybody.

Twitter is part of Mountain Lion OS X.

On top of the new notification panel, you can post twitter directly.

It's viewing that's the problem... but plenty of 3rd apps allow you to view it without opening the browser.
