Twitter is now the Intuit of social media.

Start the clock. They'll be the next Myspace in no time. Selling out your users for media companies hasn't worked for anyone. Ask AOL, Yahoo, Microsoft, Real, Myspace, et al.

In a few years you'll be able to add Facebook to that list.

Considering they just upgraded TweetDeck...

Don't forget, TweetDeck was bought by Twitter. Though their first "new" version was lacking a few of the original features, their recent update (including on Mac) has brought it back almost to parity. It was enough to make me switch back to TweetDeck.

That is more functional that the "official" Twitter client in many ways. It may have been a matter of focusing on just one. Maybe TweetDeck will eventually become the Twitter App.

Nobody is buying Twitter so we can drop that angle, The owners have said that they aren't interested in selling it to anybody.

There is no such platform as MAC - MAC is an acronym for Media Access Card. Very different things.

Or that makeup company calle MAC. Just saying...

Maybe they see defeat with Tweetbot coming out so they gave up. Twitter knows Tweetbot is superior. Either that or Twitter just doesn't like to give customers a great user experience because they know they don't have to and yet millions will still use Twitter itself.

I dunno and I don't care, I'll be using Tweetbot when it launches just like I am doing right now.

Twitter must be convinced that Windows PC sales will rebound in a BIG way :p

will they force us to use browser so they can add 357 ads to make more $ ?

Yes—but you’d think they’d be happy to feed those ads through their own official client app as well as through the browser. (If this rumor is true.)

Why? I don't get it. Is this because Apple didn't invest in them. I don't use Twitter but I know a lot of people who do. Why ditch the Mac version. Doesn't make any sense. Must be something going on here we don't know about.

I guess the useless service is killing itself. Isn't this just a bad version of RSS where you can add your own info to it, but nobody cares about what you have to say?

Clearly Twitter wants to take away the app experience altogether. You will post and consume in the dumbest and most subservient manner possible. Like the broadcast television model. No integration with other services, nothing.

That's what Apple's implemented. And we see the picture forming. Twitter will tell you what you want, and they'll give it to you.

Sad to see a reasonable service bring itself down like this. They think they're too big to fail? Look around…

I don't see this as an issue, nobody uses the official twitter client anyways.

Because OS/X is an obscure platform with not enough market share for Twitter to bother about it? Is it really something new?

Millions of users are not obscure. Apple controls a relatively small portion of the market, but it's still a huge number of people, many of whom are on Twitter. They can't afford to ignore them, and I'd suspect that this is really just a push towards the website, and the Windows client will take the same path (I assume they do have a Windows client?).

Maybe has something to do with mountain lion integration?

This is what i am thinking.

But a major update to twitter for iphone just happened recently, did it not? Why put forth the time. effort, ad resources for updating the app to take away the mac app? SO LOST

I don't see this as an issue, nobody uses the official twitter client anyways.

Niether do I. I downloaded it but it's just easier to use the website. I don't want a notification every 10 minutes.

Twitter isn't going anywhere. Twitter is just now starting to grow outside of the US. International companies are even using it. It's much more amusing than FB ,

99%??? I think Apple's market share is a little higher then 1%.

However, I commend you on your troll...

That's not trolling. This is "trolling":

1. MacOS X composes next to none of the world market outside America. Sorry. Its iOS devices are what move the company outside of the US.

2. Just because a developer doesn't think it needs to put out software for OS X doesn't mean its in decline. I mean, Half Life did pretty well and didn't come to Mac OS X until when, exactly?

3. Its ironic that I've read complaints about Twitter taking a closed ecosystem approach on an Apple Forum. OK, the purist OS X users have a point, but not iOS users at all unless they jailbreak the heck out of their devices.

To demonstrate though that I'm not trolling and that the anti-twitter hatred is about as well demonstrated as hatred for things like, Samsung (who builds Apple Devices) to Bruce Willis (for supposedly suing Apple, which wasn't true), I will say: with Twitter integration into all new Apple products, why can't they just let Apple handle the development on Apple platforms? That makes the most sense from a business point of view. Unless, of course, you think Apple designs are terrible...but that's another story.

I will say that the complaining about Twitter is just deliciously absurd. Thank you for making my night.

Uhhh...what?

Because OS/X is an obscure platform with not enough market share for Twitter to bother about it? Is it really something new?

Yeah 14% and growing. Super obscure.

I don't even use twitter. Maybe I'm the last one?

Twitter's a massive waste of time anyway. I honestly can't believe some people on there have 10,000+ tweets... don't any of these people work, or have better things to do with their lives?

I have an account, mainly to follow musicians and sports. However, the traditional means of going to the appropriate websites is much more insightful.

Maybe it's just me that doesn't see the appeal of voicing my every thought.

A quote from the movie Easy A comes to mind:

I don't know what your generation's fascination is with documenting your every thought... but I can assure you, they're not all diamonds. "Roman is having an OK day, and bought a Coke Zero at the gas station. Raise the roof." Who gives a rat's ass?
