This makes no sense to me, with this include iOS or just OS X? I only access Twitter through the web browser when on my Mac and the app on my iPhone.

What will change?

Hold on, hold on, hold on.. So eMarketer says Twitter will have stronger mobile ad revenue than Facebook, essentially saying that Twitter is the future of mobile ads unless Facebook does something quick.

Let's face it, Sponsored Stories is another way of saying Promoted Tweets.

Then if Twitter is doing so well, why is it that they and Facebook have limited their developer base? It's only going to harm them in the future. I understand that they want most people to use Twitter and thus get even greater mobile ad revenue, but there has to be a balance.

Don't forget, TweetDeck was bought by Twitter. Though their first "new" version was lacking a few of the original features, their recent update (including on Mac) has brought it back almost to parity. It was enough to make me switch back to TweetDeck.

That is more functional that the "official" Twitter client in many ways. It may have been a matter of focusing on just one. Maybe TweetDeck will eventually become the Twitter App.

Tweetdeck, and Tweetdeck Pro maybe, closer to HootSuite?

This type of scenario is exactly why I was against Apple incorporating Twitter & Facebook into iOS. It's as though Apple is desperate to add features to differentiate iOS from others.

Yet that's not needed, since iOS is already a proven success. Why does Apple seem to he running running scared? Acting erratically for absolutely no reason.

Twitter not updating its own app because Apple is running scared? Priceless!

Anyone has sillier joke than this?

I never liked Twitter. Facebook and Linkedln are more than enough.

Your ignorance makes me laugh. Twitter is a wonderful thing, and a great way to make money. I make $200+ a week on Twitter and I basically do nothing... Post tweets and have my followers click on links... Pretty simple and I'm getting paid to do it. I wouldn't consider that a waste of time. I also just started two months ago, and as my Twitter followers grow, that weekly paycheck (More of a payment to my PayPal account) will increase. My Twitter link is in my signature if you don't believe me... I would never consider it a full time job as we all know it won't be there forever... But the extra money along with my regular paycheck has been quite awesome.

Twitter is a growing sensation, and there's lots of money to be made with it... At least until Twitter drives themselves into the ground.

Basically you use twitter like spam mail. This doesn't make twitter any more attractive.

How do you make money? what are you providing that is of value to someone to give you money? I'm not trying to troll, just trying to figure out how twitter can be a business model, i personally don't get twitter, and many said it seems to be a waste of time and energy.

Advertising. My main source of income is through "MyLikes"... I've tried other websites but that seems to be the best one, at least for me. SponsoredTweets is another good one. Tons of people just tweet out any type of ad and hope people will click on their links but that's just not how it works. Targeted advertising will make you the most money. It's so simple, yet it amazes me how many people don't take advantage of it. You'd be surprised what companies will pay for just one click to their website.

I just find it hilarious when someone says Twitter is a waste of time, and yet they have 400+ posts on a forum... The irony is hilarious.

Twitter Development

They stopped development of the application because they have worked with Apple to embed it into Mountain Lion - C'Mon Man!

Not true at all... People don't click on spam links, and by chance they do, they won't ever again. You need interactive links that people learn things from... Which keeps making them come back for more. Which in the end you make money from.

You would never make money from posting garbage links... not to mention you would lose your followers.

I dont use Twitter to begin with. However, I do know that Twitter is a very simplistic service that can be taken care of by your web browser. If I may ask you Twitter folks, why is a native application really necessary for OS X?

Seems like twitter can't make their mind up what they want as a client.

Pretty much the first thing they did when they bought Tweetdeck was drop the iOS version(s) in favour of the "official" twitter app - now on osx they would appear to be heading back in the reverse direction and dropping the official app in favour of Tweetdeck.

Consistency people - could we have some please?

Don't like the recent developments from Twitter, but neglecting (or even shutting down) the Mac app is absolutely disappointing. :(

If Twitter is indeed on a free fall, this would be a tragic victory of the naively pictorial, tasteless, verbose Facebook over the elegance and perspicuity of Twitter's prose. #chirp

I don't get why someone hasn't come along to provide the same exact service that Twitter does only without looking like an outdated piece of crap.

A. Get rid of the character cap or at least double or triple it. Politicians, actors, and everyone else look retarded when putting "2 be" "luv" "guna" and all the other shortened versions of words in order to not go over the character cap.

B. Provide some way to have links that aren't shortened URLs. That looks ugly and unnecessary. vBulletin has had a better system for putting links in a post since 2000, yet Twitter looks like it's one step above 1998's standards with their bitly.com links.

C. Have a picture and video system to be integrated into the service. Or at least have it be easier to embed YouTube videos. The pictures though should be a no brainer. Why have that be on a separate service (twitpic) and only make the whole thing even more of a cluster-f than it already is.

If someone came along and quickly lived up to these standards while having servers that could handle a quick increase in load, they could own the market that Twitter has now and Twitter would be the next myspace. If they did it well enough, they could also potentially expand and steal Facebook's marketshare as well. I know that's easier said than done, but there are plenty of companies (Apple, Amazon, Google) that have the means necessary.

I guess Twitter is trying to be a web-only service... I wonder when they'll discontinue their iOS apps

99% of my Tweets come from the iOS app, my usage of Twitter would be non-existant without the app. In fact, Twitter works so much better on the app than the webpage.

Use Twitter then you can answer your own question.

Unless you are a celebrity , or have over 50,000 followers and want everyone to dissect every word you Tweet,....there is no reason to use Twitter.

Let it go

If all you follow on Twitter are celebrities you will get nothing out of it. I love twitter, I think it's an awesome resource for access to information from every conceivable subject - I follow lots of science/archaeology twitter users.
