Verified accounts should be prohibited from changing their handles rapidly. In the Uk the Conservative party did this to pretend it was 'FactCheckUK' during one of the election debates.
FYI if you change the handle it automatically removes the handle. Maybe they changed the display name that appears alongside the handle?

Twitter is a drag on society. It provides exactly nothing of value while at the same time impeding society's ability to engage in civil discourse.
Discourse, civil or otherwise, was not what Twitter was designed for. It was a micro-blogging platform, and that is how I use it. It’s an excellent tool for news aggregation. But I suppose if people are trying to dialog with random people on it, I can see where that would be problematic.

I’m not sure Twitter has a bright future. Whenever our current president leaves office Twitter will be far less interesting for everyone. Between that, Twitter’s bias in promoting viewpoints, and it’s bias in banning content I don’t see how it will be very popular.

Really? You can’t think of one single use case where it’s beneficial? I never even open the app I just get tweet notifications from a select few (Hawkeye, Colts, Red Sox beat reporters, MacRumors, etc.) so I know immediately about goings ons.
I know exactly what is going on, because I read news websites in a Morning, to get a Balanced view. I do not rely on self important, self claimed 'journalists' to give their one and only opinion in their echo chamber.

Ever noticed on twitter how people only follow other people who think exactly like themselves, and if they come across a dissenting view it is a pile on?

This is great for me! About a year ago I started automatically blocking everyone with a blue check. My twitter experience is easily 1000% better.

The blue check is a great way for pompous idiots and mean, vicious, non-self aware trolls of every persuasion to self identify. Thanks blue check!

Totally agree, though I don't use Twitter anymore. I do apply the same logic to Reddit (and MacRumors) as it happens; when I find someone matching the description you provided above (on either "side" of the aisle) I just block them. The experience improves immediately.

Is twitter still a thing? Last I saw it was just a place for people to post snarky random sentences, and others to post back about how dumb they are for said random sentence.
yes it is still a thing.

Right now ... it's still the platform posting real time information of what's going on in the world. Strange how the other social platforms try, their style of posts just doesn't flow a rapidly or go across various accounts as quickly. Probably due to sectioning off those you don't follow.

Wouldn't mind a green checkbox for "verified nobodys"... so at least we know it's a human being with a home address and not a bot farm account.

That about sums up the cesspool of political activism that is twitter. The tool by which we mob people and destroy their lives for mistakes they made 10 years ago.
This is so spot on. It's become a cesspool of far left activism. Everyone who isn't a far leftist has either left the platform or moved onto Parler where you don't get banned for wrongthink.

Twitter will re-open account verification requests early next year, the company announced this week, bringing brand-new guidelines for users seeking the little tick next to their Twitter handle.

Rumors that Twitter has been working on a new verification system first appeared in June, but the company has now officially confirmed its return in a blog post, in which it asked for feedback on a draft proposal for verification.
Assuming the proposal stays the same, accounts that will be eligible for verification include government officials, companies, brands and nonprofit organizations, news outlets and freelance journalists, entertainment and sports, activists, organizers, and other influential individuals.

If a profile becomes inactive or incomplete, the proposals suggest it could be stripped of verification, while accounts that fail to adhere to the social network's rules could also lose their verified status.

Twitter is asking users to fill in a survey on how the verification process should be operated, and says it's working with organizations for additional feedback. Going into 2021, the company says it also plans to give Twitter users more ways to identify themselves, such as new account types and labels, although what form they will take has yet to be revealed.

Nice try Jack. Feigning legitimacy with some lame ass verification system. I don’t use this moronic platform for good reason which is a spineless faceless agenda driven mess.

I’ll admit, I’ve used Twitter since 2008 and love it, but it definitely has gotten worse of the years (just like many other services).

It has some great uses though if you follow the right people. That’s really all it’s about.

Twitter is starting it's decline now. As people move away & find alternative platforms that are not practicing censorship against speech & ideas that do not align with that of the company. And what's left of it will be getting hammered by the government & regulatory agencies, it will be difficult to see how the company will be able to survive. Check back in 5 years, and see if Twitter is still around.

Well, I have a blue check mark on Twitter! I'm sorry if some people think this makes me automatically blockable, but I got it because I am a (very very minor) public figure, and if nothing else, it stops impersonators trying to do things or get things under my name. That doesn't make me any more important, or my tweets any more worthwhile, but it's just a handy tool to help stop scammers and trolls.
