Twitter appears to be exploring the possibility of giving iOS users a choice of Twitter app icons to use on their Home Screen, based on a new survey sent out to members of its Twitter Insiders program.

As the picture above shows, Twitter has four different app icons in mind, and the company is currently garnering feedback on the new designs to see which ones users prefer.

Third-party developers of iOS and iPadOS apps are able to give users different icon options for their apps, which gives them better control over Home Screen customization.

Take the third-party Reddit client Apollo, which maintains a regularly updated library of icon designs for the app that's proved popular with its users. Twitter could theoretically offer a similar option in its official client.

Twitter is also testing a new splash screen, as shown in the animated GIF below.

As with all app tests that have yet to make it to the public release, Twitter could ultimately decide not to implement these changes, so we'll just have wait and see. The new icon designs and splash screen were first reported by 9to5Mac.

Horrible app. The feed is all over the place with did you miss“ or „what you may like“ and „follower suggestions“ on top of the obnoxious amount of ads. No thanks.
I prefer something like Twitterrific, which just offers me a chronological feed without any ads

Horrible! What's the point of that? I don't like splash screen nor their different icons.

One good thing about Twitter is their accessibility features but that's it.

Wish Apple would allow developers to use downloaded app icons instead of just pre-bundled... Would make customizing a B2B application better. But obviously would lead to a bunch of malicious use if you could change the name and icon of installed apps to something Apple doesn’t approve
You can already change the app icons on apps.
I have the Canadian Premier League app, and if you chose a team then the icon changes to that specific team.
On Tinder if you have a premium account, the app icon changes.

I think they were saying Apple should allow people to use their own icons instead of the icons that come with the app itself.

Pretty cool looking. Of course we can’t trust this though because 9to5Mac has a terrible track record of leaks.
-kids Time on Watch OS (no show)
-AirTags “imminent” (months ago)
-List View Home Screen (not there)
-smaller HomePod (no show)
-SiriOS (no show)
-TV+ “all family friendly content” (yeah no)

Workin on all this cool stuff.
Can't lock the front door.

Right? I care not for the splash screen - I'd rather the launch splash screen time be reduced by 1/3 so I don't need to stare at it in the first place.

Better yet, I'd like there developers to spend more time on give us more option than a 'heart' to like. Why no 'love, sad, laugh, or broken heart' ? Seems odd the use a Heart icon on a very VERY sad posting - actually it's asinine.
