Good news!

Always thought the character limit was dumb. Maybe in the very early days it made sense but I don't see why users should be limited.

I know people like to hate on Elon, and I get it, but Twitter is getting better with him in control. I saw a lot of people moving to Mastodon and I joined but the place is dead. Well, there are people posting but they are nobodies (Nobody I follow on Twitter is on it) AND most of the time they are talking about how much they hate Twitter.
Plenty of platforms where you can post long messages. The point of twitter is actually in the name. You can tweet. Not sing the whole bohemian rhapsody. You tweet. That is why it’s twitter.

Yes, this will help the ranters. And would be easy to ignore.
Or it might help saying things actually meaningful rather than shouting meaningless sound bites. I think Twitter character limit encouraged populists a la trump because in 140-280 characters you can just over simply reality and you can’t argument properly without using dirty tricks.

What don't you like about Elon?
Could it be....his lightning fast move to remove indecent images of children from Twitter?...his move to reinstate accounts of those who merely held views that hard-left Twitter staff didn't agree with?...his exposure of Twitter supressing free speech?...or his release of information that showed Twitter helped interfere in the election in the USA and elsewhere? His businesses that employ thousands of people and which helped to popularise electric vehicles (good for the environment) and space exploration??. Please tell us what you don't like about him? 🤔

Well done for believing all of that 😂

Independent thinking success. Please let us know when you are ready to praise subsidised corporations, NASA and public transport.

I keep getting the feeling that Musk overpaid for Twitter. And that he doesn't have the necessary insight to turn it into a company worth near the price. But who knows, if anyone has the resources to make something of the opportunity then it is Musk. He just hasn't done much yet to make people want to use the service, other then letting us all get the blue tick.

The main thing I’ve always wanted is to be able to click a trending topic and immediately see why that topic is trending.
Not 10 posts about Elon changing the heart icon to a Tesla logo.
Or 5 Denzel gifs.
And 400 bot comments.
Only to never find out why that topic is trending.
Theres only like 100 trending topics a day. Just manually hire someone to do that.
A topic is trending because it or its hashtags are being referred to a lot, either organically or artificially, in the form of posts, shares, mentions, retweets, etc. by either people or bots.

I don't use Twitter but something I liked about it was that it forced people to be concise. That little appeal is gone now.

Imagine Qelon uses his 4000 characters to explain why he believed covid would be nearly zero cases by April 2020 and why he is attacking Anthony Fauci today.

Rather he wants his Qelon army use very long tweets to flood the platform with long streams of garbage that are impossible to reply to. Nobody sensible would want to waste so much time replying to 4000 characters of garbage. This will make it look like their super long tweets are unchallengeable.

Twitters core customer base is:
-Crazy unemployed left wing arm chair warriors here to defend the world against the right.
-Crazy unemployed right wing arm chair warriors here to defend the world against the left.
-Upset Karen's here to make sure the injustice of waiting too long for a free drink at Starbucks is righted.
-Old people still lost in the AOL chat lobby.

It's a winning formula.

In terms of MacRumors posting this story.......what else are they going to put on here? It's not like there are constant Mac specific things going on. I'm sure a lot of people reading have Twitter accounts and would be interested. I'll take this stuff over seeing another interview with Rene Richie.

YouTube comments would say otherwise

The whole POINT of Twitter was to be as brief and concise as possible. I mean, we don’t need 4,000 characters to say, “I rather dislike Elon Musk today” or, “I rather like Elon Musk today.”

Only one of those statements gets you banned on Twitter…

Yes let’s just taste the sand by going in with the entire head. Any company laying off 30-50% of its employees is an indicator for a great functioning business. Let’s rather celebrate electric cars because they’re so green and mass market affordable and totally not overpriced toys for tech nerds without a concept of mass market penetration.
